Model: Predator Helios 300 PH315-51-59E7
CPU: i5-8300H
GPU: GTX 1060 6gb

I need help, laptop has been shutting down while playing games, games I usually play are witcher 3, R6 Siege and NBA 2k20 and they all cause my laptop to turn off at random times.
I recently performed a clean install of windows 10 on this laptop and also installed my OS on my new intel ssd (Intel 660p 512GB), and had also upgraded my ram to 16gb 2 weeks ago.
Before I reinstalled windows, I tested both ssd and ram to see if theres any stability issues, ram worked fine since I installed it 2 weeks ago, got my ssd just 3 days ago, installed some games on it and it worked fine as well, but as soon as I went on and formatted my laptop and installed windows 10 on my ssd, problems started occuring, the main one being that my laptop shuts off while gaming.

Something I noticed after windows finished installing was my fan was pretty loud, even if I'm just sitting on my desktop or browser not doing anything, the fans are pretty loud, so I went and installed Predator Sense (the white version, I cant find the red version that would work on my laptop) and my fans are at 5000 or more rpm at all times, and from predator sense, my temps even when idle was between 50-60, before reformatting, my idle temps where between 45-55. I also noticed that after booting windows and logging into windows, my cpu was running close to 4GHz, is this normal?

I also used throttlestop and msi afterburner, used the same configs that I used previously the one that worked best on my laptop but it didn't help at all, temps were the same still. All my drivers have been updated (except for my bios).

I've also cleaned the laptop, opened the back and unclogged the fans and vents and its clean now but it only dropped my temps by 5 or something from what I noticed.

When gaming, before reinstalling windows I would usually get something between 75-85 when gaming, sometiems when playing demanding games it would reach to about 89, it would never reach 90 at all no matter what, but ever since reinstalling windows 10, my games easily reach 90 degrees, at worst even 95 or 96 degrees then it would shut off. I did nothing else other than reinstall windows 10 on my ssd and it would just shut off and also reach high temps.

Some stuff I also did was look for that switch near the ram slots labeled sw2, I did not find it at all, there was no switch on my laptop. I also did that battery reset pinhole and have done it for 4 times already, it also didnt work.

I'm all outta luck right now and one thing I still havent done is have my laptop repasted, which I cant do since theres no nearby laptop repair center, so Im planning to leave next week and have it repasted somewhere if this is still not resolved by the end of this week.

Hopefully someone can help me fix this, any help will be appreciated, thanks!

Baliwna windows 10 1909 its not so good its just a small upgrade from 1903 to enable some more bloatware/services that were already present on 1903 but dormant have you tried older versions of windows 10 like 1809 or even older for ex to see if you issues persist also have you optimized windows and undervolted check here if after optimizing/undervolting the contsant crashes persist and you have high temps you need to repaste it with kryonaut or similar yourself if you can without voiding your warranty or send it back to get it cleaned/repasted with stock paste

As i said try an earlier version of win10 1909 its one of the worst ones when it comes to cpu usage/temps just followed by 1803 that also had similar issues also do you get any bsod at all if not check the event viewer for any issues that might be there

Where can I download 1903 or 1809 version of windows? I failed to mention that I was using 1903 version of windows berore, I tried rolling back to 1903 but cant, the windows ISO file that I used seems to be 1909.

I just went and undervolted both gpu and cpu and it still crashed for me, I noticed something while using throttlestop, my cpu temps were close to what it was before, it was between 80 and 86, but my gpu was at 95degrees constantly and it did shutdown again shortly after i closed the game already

Baliwna its probably crashing dur to gigh temps on the gpu i would repaste it as i mentioned above and after see if the issue persists regarding getting older windows versions you would have to google for it download the iso and burn it with rufus because MS wont support it on their website the usb creation tool will only create for the latest they have everything locked down so no one could downgrade easily :)

Im still on 1809 myself since day 1 disable windows updates permanently never had a single issue and after upgrading my ram to 32gb also ssd to 2tb and windows virtual memory to 10gb and optimizing windows/undervolting/repasting with kryonaut in the first week i got it my temps dropped 25+ and this was almost 2 years ago same temps now :)

Ok thanks for the help! Im going to revert back to 1809 now using rufus.
Where can I find a tutorial on optimizing windows? I think my undervolting is fine now and will get it repasted next week as well, im going to download 1809 for now and check if it will solve my problems, thanks again!

So ive been able to downgrade to 1809 successfully, took some time to update drivers then did my testing, although my laptop isnt crashing anymore, and my CPU temps are back to what it should be (around 80-85 while gaming), my gpu temp was still blazing hot, still reaching 95 degrees, it was weird and then I remembered that I made a copy of the nvidia drivers I was using prior to formatting my laptop, it was 441.66. So I installed that driver, rebooted my laptop, made sure nothing else was running except for NBA 2K20, and bam, my GPU temps are down to 80-88 degrees, still a bit high but acceptable. Another thing that happened was my CPU temps while playing also dropped, from previously 80-85 degrees, to 77-83 degrees, and thats on max settings nba 2k20, I was surprised that changing my gpu drivers did both of that, is there something with the new nvidia drivers (it was 441.92 i think) that causes some overheating?

So I made that testing and conclusion hours ago but wasnt able to post, I just got back awhile ago and now I decided to game a bit, aaaand the laptop just crashed again, and the GPU overheated again, so maybe it's not the drivers? Dunno, but I'm out of ideas, I can't have my cpu and gpu repasted until next week, I really dont know what to do now.

Idle temps are fine and actually better than what it was before, but my GPU for some reason, just really overheats, I really dont know how reinstalling windows managed to do this.

Baliwna your gpu temps are still too high i really think you should either repaste it with kryonaut if you can without voiding your warranty or get it repasted :) but thats always great to know that the older 1809 its working as its supposed :) but im afraid your crashing issues will not go away until you get a proper repaste with a proper thermal paste

PS: im still on 416.94 myself only updated once from acer stock because black ops and bf5 wouldnt work on the older ones if it was not for that i would still be on acer stock driver and never had a single issue :)

Went on an all nighter and did some more tweakings and testing, was able to make it work and play games without crashing my laptop, although I had to turn a lot of things down, so my games were a tad slower than usual, I'm going to try and buy some thermal paste and try repasting it myself later, thanks for the help!

I still haven't been able to repaste my laptop as the kryonaut i ordered is taking forever to deliver, I;ve been able to game so far, just had to set the fans at max but now, even when both cpu and gpu temps are between 80-87 degrees, my laptop would suddenly shutdown, the laptop isn't as hot as it was before, even when i touch the laptop it's not as hot as before, is there maybe a temporary solution to this?

I've already udnervolted my cpu and have done other stuff, laptop needs repasting badly but I dont have the resources to do it for now, just hoping that there's some way I can somewhat play games without the laptop shutting down while I wait for my thermal paste lol

Baliwna unfortunately there isnt another way i would wait patiently for the paste and use the spread method just a thin layer covering both diodes its enough because too much thermal paste its bad the same as too less also make sure when disassembling it be careful dont damage any of thermal pads and clean the diodes and heatsink properly i recommend cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol dont forget to also clean the fans and exit airflow properly meanwhile lift the back 1/2 inches might help with a bit more of airflow but no guarantee it would do much anyway

So I've finally repasted my laptop, my idle temps went down from mid 60s to now 55-60 degrees on idle, still high though. Immediately after repasting and assembling the laptop and booted up, my temps were low at the low 40s range, it was pretty amazing, but, shortly after that maybe about 15 minutes sitting idle, i got BSOD with memory_management as the error, dunno what that means. After that it rebooted itself and now its at the 55-60 degrees range in both CPU and GPU temps, pretty weird, cant get it back down to 40 degrees now. I also tried gaming again, played R6 siege, temps w/o the fans at max were reaching 88 degrees, with the fans at max it dropped to 85, but, it still crashed my laptop, it was pretty hot but not as hot as it was like a week ago and i think 85 is pretty normal I used to game a lot at those temps before, no issues back then.

I dunno why my laptop is still crashing, this all started happening after I formatted my pc and installed my OS to my ssd (intel 660p). I also went and repasted my laptop again, just incase I messed up my application, I used less thermal paste this time and the results are still the same, runs at 40 degrees for a while, crashes, boots up again and its back up to near 60 degrees again on idle that is less than 5% cpu usage too.

Also, do I need to tighten the screws in the heatsink or just make it snug? And how thin should my thermal paste be? I think I put too much at my first try, so I redid it and placed less in it and it still had the same outcome. Maybe there's a photo of how thin it should be for reference? Thanks

As I finished typing this, my temps went up to 61-63 degrees. fml lol

Baliwna as long as the diodes are fully covered should be just fine if youre temps arent high when gaming you should be fine as long as it doesnt crashes

Baliwna as long as the diodes are fully covered should be just fine if youre temps arent high when gaming you should be fine as long as it doesnt crashes
but it does still crash for me, I've covered the die properly and my idle temps are lower by 6-10 degrees but gaming remains unchanged maybe thats why I'm still crashing
