Touchpad gestures allow you to use your touchpad for more than just scrolling and selecting. When configured, touchpad gestures can switch between applications and desktops, adjust volume levels, and even perform keyboard shortcuts.
To Customize Touchpad Gestures in Windows 11:
- Open the Settings ⚙️ application, you can do so by holding down the Windows ⊞ key and the letter I on your keyboard
- On the left-side of the Settings window, select Bluetooth and devices
- On the right-side, scroll down and select Touchpad
- Locate Gestures and interaction
- Select either Three-finger or Four-finger gestures
- When expanded, select the Swipes dropdown
- There are four default gesture configurations that you can choose from:
- Nothing
- Switch apps and show desktop
- Switch desktops and show desktop
- Change audio and volume
- Once selected the gesture configuration will be applied
If you want to setup up custom gestures:
- Open the Settings ⚙️ application and navigate to the Touchpad settings
- Scroll down and select Advanced gestures
- Select the dropdown next to a gesture to choose the action that the gesture performs
If you want a gesture to perform a custom keyboard shortcut:
- Under Advanced gestures, select the dropdown next to a gesture to choose the action that the gesture performs
- Scroll down to the bottom of the actions and select Custom shortcut
- Select Start recording and enter the keyboard shortcut that you want the gesture to perform
- Once recorded, select Stop recording
- The gesture will now perform the keyboard shortcut that you entered
