Acer Swift SF14-11, SFG14-01 and SF14-11T notebooks are equipped with a KN.51204.041 512 GB Micron solid state drive. For this specific SSD, Micron has released a firmware update to improve stability and performance.
Risks of using outdated SSD firmware
Running an outdated version of the Micron SSD firmware might cause your Acer Swift to fail to boot into Windows. The SSD is detected in the BIOS, but it enters Write Protection mode, preventing your notebook from starting up.
Recommendation: Update your SSD firmware
To prevent your SSD from going into Write Protection mode, Acer highly recommends updating the Micron SSD firmware on your computer. For instructions on how to download and update the SSD firmware, follow the steps below.
How to update the Micron KN.51204.041 SSD firmware
- Download the new firmware.
- Open an internet browser on your computer.
- Type www.acer.com into the search bar of the browser.
- In the top menu, click on Support.
- In the left menu, click on Drivers and Manuals.
- Enter the serial number or SNID of your computer in the search bar.
- Then click on your computer’s model name in the search results.
- Scroll down to the BIOS/Firmware section and unfold it by clicking on it.
- Find the Micron SSD FW V6MA003 update pack firmware in the list.
- Click on the Download button on the right to download the firmware.
- Unzip the downloaded file.
- Click on the Windows icon in the task bar.
- In the left menu, find and click on the Documents icon.
- In the left menu, click on the Downloads folder.
- Locate the downloaded ZIP file in the folder.
- Right-click on the ZIP file.
- In the open menu, hover over the ZIP tool that is installed on your computer to reveal the submenu.
- In the submenu, select how and where you want to unzip the file.
- Install the new SSD firmware.
- Locate and open the folder with the unzipped files.
- Double-click on the FW update.bat file in the folder.
- Now click on Run as administrator.
- Follow the onscreen instructions during the installation process.
- Restart your computer.
- After the SSD firmware update is finished, click on the Windows icon in the task bar or press the Windows key.
- In the menu, click on the Power icon to unfold the menu
- In the Power menu, click on Restart to restart your system.
