  • Don't worry George...I did see your response earlier. I do think your situation is quite unusual although SSD failures have occured with others...I don't recall seeing reports of so many failures from the same person! There are two situations that result in prevalent failures like this....heatflow, voltage. Assuming your…
  • Well that's why I think you should talk with trading standards. There are consumer rights beyond the simply warranty. And in your case, a particular part in the netbook has displayed a prevelance for failure indicating the goods are "not fit for purpose". Please look at…
  • The responsibility actually lies with PC World and not Acer. Have you approached PC world with the issues and asked them for a refund or replacement in view of your continued failures with the laptop? If they refuse, then I would go to trading standards for advice as the next step... I agree that the chances of an SSD…
  • No worries. I hope I have at least put your mind at rest about your Ultrabook. Enjoy!
  • It has been discussed multiple times on here including with the S7-391. It is not faulty. It is by design due to the fact that Acer are using LCD overdrive to achieve higher contrast from the panels. There is no burn-in, but there is temporary screen retention which fades after a short time. I am not sure if you changed…
  • Have you all lost a row of tiles in Windows 8.1? Before I had 5 rows of tiles (no registry hacks). Now I only have 4 rows of tiles since updating to 8.1
  • Indeed this is a well known issue with the i7 version of this otherwise beautiful ultrabook. The i5 version didn't suffer from this.
  • There isn't really a way of reducing the contrast. You have the brightness which controls the backlight, but nothing I am aware of reduces the contrast. It annoyed me at the start, but not anymore. I also chose a wallpaper/background that wasn't so plain, so I rarely notice it.
  • Indeed, just to be clear. The 128GB SSD is actually two 64GB SSDs. So if you split them, you will end up with a Drive C, 64GB, and Drive D, 64GB. There is no advantage to this, and you lose speed as well!
  • This was there in the S7-391 as well and is normal for these models. It is because they are using "Overdrive" with the panels to increase contrast. The downside of this, is that high contrast objects can leave temporary image retention. It is only temporary though and will not result in any permanent burn-in.
  • Here you go:- http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/28526/kw/reinstall%20s7-391 Remember this was published for the S7 191 which I thought would be just the same, but a couple of posters say these instructions are not working on the 391. Please let us know how you get on!
  • The SSD should show as a single 128 or 256GB drive (depending on your purchase). In reality it is two but they are tied together with RAID 0. The big problem that people are having is replicating this RAID 0 configuration if it is lost through SSD replacement. Refurbished S7s seem to be arriving configured as two drives.…
  • There is a big thread covering this already. http://community.acer.com/t5/Ultra-Thin/Acer-Aspire-S7-391-9413-keeps-shutting-down-randomly-while-under/m-p/29879#U29879 Bottom line...try tightening one of the scews on the bottom cover as per the later messages in the thread.
  • I must be honest I have not seen that issue with the columns from top to bottom before. Certainly as I mentioned the corners being darker is totally normal for this model. You have now had two models the same so it looks more like a limitation in the design, but I do understand you may not be happy with it. Very strange.…
  • All S7s have a slight shadow (slightly dimmer), in the bottom corners. But I am not familiar with noticing this running from top to bottom in a line..... Perhaps you can take a picture and post it here?
  • I have never managed to get into the BIOS from a cold boot. I always have to restart the machine. Others have noted this too. Maybe that problem doesn't happen when the BIOS is in legacy mode. Instead of powering off when you get the message that there is no operating system, I was suggesteding you hold down…
  • That's very poor indeed. Which country are you in? I found the UK support seems to go to India which really surprised me considering its a Taiwanese company. They basically told me I was the incompetent one (not this issue, something else), and told me I was lying when I mentioned that the S7 came bundled with a mouse! I…
  • There is the odd post from an Acer person but these are fundamentally community forums and so I hope one of you experiencing this has reported it via a support request directly. You may never get noticed by Acer themselves posting on here....
  • It's not available as an accessory. It would have to be ordered as a spare part. Depending on which country you live in, you should call the Acer webstore telephone number and ask what the number is for spare parts. But be prepared for a long wait as they are normally very slow. Instead, I would just call up the place you…
  • **bleep**.....this is probably related to a longstanding boot bug. You can only get into the BIOS on a restart and not a fresh power-on. Nobody has ever got to the bottom of this. I wonder if that same issue is preventing you getting into the Intel BIOS as well. I assume you did manage to get into the BIOS to put it in…
