  • For others in case they ever run into this problem: I found the solution. I was using the nouveau driver instead of the recommended Nvidea driver. I think I switched to it to be able to drive an extra wide external monitor with a custom resolution. Can't remember if that helped but I no longer use an external monitor on…
  • Oops. I see that I said AN617 in the body of the text (although the title is right, AN517). Should be AN517.
  • I have it working. I now have the BIOS set to AHCI and Mint boots without the 1.5 min timeout AND Win10 can also boot. In the link provided above it showed how to disable Optain in Windows using the Intel Storage Technology app in Windows10. https://support.cyberpowerpc.com/hc/en- ... el-Optane- But when I was in the app I…
  • Thanks. It took using CTRL + S on the Main tab (hmmm I can't remember what I was doing before, that wasn't working; maybe doing it in the Information tab) to bring up the extra setting for SATA mode. When I used Cntl + S that showed me the SATA mode and I then changed it to AHCI. Linux Mint now is happy and boots without…
  • bon dia egydiocoelho, minha espousa e brasileira mas no falo portuguese......... or certainly not much I did a shut down to Linux Mint. Started the laptop with the power switch, F2 to enter the BIOS. At some earlier point I did something where I have to enter a password to even get in the BIOS and fortunately have it well…
  • Problem appears fixed with a linux kernel upgrade to 5.11 through the Mint Upgrade Manager.
  • and here is what I see when I look at the Drivers app

  • Not sure how to check that other than I searched and found NVIDEA X Server Settings app and it shows this, which probably is indicating a problem.
  • Seems the problem was that I was running Optain in the BIOS. I switched to ACHI and reinstalled windows from a recovery drive. Then booted to a live linux drive and it worked fast and I installed off of that.
  • How about in Linux MInt 20? I have a two SSD Acer AN517-52-52T3. In the BIOS I changed to ACHI from Optain. Reinstalled Win10 from a recovery flashdrive. Installed Linux Mint 20 from a flashdrive. Win10 works without high pitched noise. But Linux is making a high pitched noise. How can I get rid of it?
  • UPDATE: I mentioned that it takes 10 or 15 minutes to boot from the flashdrive to get to a desktop and then is very slow. I got to that point, walked away, came back another 15 minutes later and the Linux Mint running from the flashdrive was running normally, fast. So I clicked on the Install Linux icon on the desktop and…
  • EDIT: I was saying Etcher for the install program and then realized that I have been using Rufus. So I just downloaded Etcher. I put the disk in and windows asked to reformat the flashdrive and i let it do that. Then ran Etcher, which has no real settings. You just point it to the .iso file you want to use and do it. Both…
