  • hi, I'm interested in buying this chromebook. Do you have an update of this issue? I have been using ARM chromebooks [Samsung Chromebook Plus / Lenovo Duet ] but never had random reboots. Have you tried to use the webapp version of Twitter vs Android Twitter and do you see a difference in reboots? Did you also issue a…
  • Hi, I also live in Thailand and have the previous gen swift 3. What is your ambient temperature? Today in Ko Chang it was without AC 30C, which can make your laptop feels warmer on the touch. I use notebook fan control app to check if the fan is blowing at it's max, but it does not improve the cooling of the laptop. On the…
  • Can you share your tpl settings please [a screenshot] ? Mine [SF314-56G with i5-8265u] according to your settings will initially go above 15W power limit however after the PL1 limit is hit once within a minute, it will throttle back to 15W and stays around 15W. Temp stays under 80C. I read about it, there seems to be a…
  • Thanks for answering. A good decision finally to move to AMD with their more power efficient ryzen 3rd gen architecture and a laptop model with more thermal cooling capacity
  • no since having the laptop, have had 4-5 Windows quarterly updates already and no improvement as there is hardly any update improvement on the fingerprint driver. i know other laptops that just have better readers from day 1
  • same here with my sf314-56G. Updates of this driver are rare. Seems to work better after a windows restart, so must be memory management of the driver
  • this is called marketing voodoo! ;-) the chat line will also not be able to answer you. as a consumer I would be more concerned if I can get a 16GB 4700U config for a competitive price like $700-750. i got mine, a 2-in-1 16GB 4500U for $600.
  • hi, i saw your youtube review video, very nice! Based on your reported power draws I would say hardware and thermals wise, your laptop is fine, no problems with thermal sensors whatsoever:* GPU heavy = ~20w * CPU heavy = ~30w (peak at 40w) * Combined workload = 33w I have the same 4500U in a lenovo 14" laptop and the power…
  • very likely hdmi 1.4b so 4k@30Hz. why? it seems that precise electronic circuitry needs to be put on the pcb to support 2.0, and therefore most of the budget laptops like aspire, swift 3 and lenovo ideapad s340 series do not support hdmi 2.0 or usb c displayport 1.4.
  • i'm afraid NOT, just check out every review on youtube, also due to the very low weight of 1.2kg and small screen size. It is very hard to find thin laptops these days that have 1 or 2 so-dimm slots available. You have to start with 15+ inch, gaming or the business type laptops like Thinkpads or HP Probook.
  • Hi @SimsIT, feel sorry to hear about your 1 month experience with the Acer laptop and sofar nothing could help you. Yes this is from experience of also having an Acer myself - before buying any laptop also an Acer do your due diligence of the product. Acer is known - this I found out later - for their average display,…
  • If you are in Germany, you already can preorder the Acer or the Slim 7. Note that you get more laptop for the Slim 7 for the same amount ~ 1000 euro. If you are in Thailand, you're even more lucky, as you can order NOW, the same Slim 7 as specified below for 840 euro: Acer: 4700U cpu, 8 GB RAM, display quality - unknown,…
  • The best "rumour" sofar on the SF314-42 is here https://www.ultrabookreview.com/35126-acer-swift-3-2020/. I am disappointed that the laptop will not support USB C charging - only 10 GB data transport, so I would not expect it will upgrade the HDMI port. The screen seems also to be mediocre like the standard Swift screens.…
  • - are you sure your linux mint installation is uefi compliant? - did you check with the usb live installation that the boot order is correct? you can use the "sudo efibootmgr" command to check the boot order and the same command with --bootorder flag to change the boot order so linux grub menu is booted first
  • hi, it is not clear to me what you have done and whether you have installed linux on the 2nd HDD. you said that you gpt formated the 2nd HDD and created a efi, swap and ext4 partition. Well normally you don't need to prepare this in advance, as the linux installer will do it for you. Before you install linux with the usb…
  • ubuntu, manjaro or any linux distro will work on a swift 3, I have ubuntu running on my sf314-56g. however you must be aware about your bios settings and how to get some hardware working properly depending how new your swift hardware (e.g. gpu, wifi) is and which distro you want to run. For example a new wifi module in…
  • hi, there are a couple of things you might try, but you need to be aware what you are doing in linux with in a terminal windows. You said that it immediately boots up linux and if you press f2, the BIOS does not appear. 1) In Linux, you can startup a terminal window, and learn to use the command "efibootmgr" by checking…
  • i have a similar laptop sf314-56G, and I would recommend you ubuntu budgie 18.04 LTS 64 bit edition, why? Budgie is a simple modern desktop user interface, and relatively fast/responsive. The LTS you get long term support and is stable, ubuntu has a large audience, so help can be found easily on internet. What BIOS…
  • my acer laptop in ubuntu does not allow fan control thru its BIOS and also not thru Windows. Likely your Predator has a fan control app in windows, the question is whether this can be controlled thru the BIOS/firmware and is accessible in ubuntu. You can try out the following tools in ubuntu - tlp (power management),…
  • you can only get grub errors either because your live usb was not made properly, so the grub menu could not be displayed, or during the installation process of ubuntu. To my knowledge this has nothing to do with not recognizing the ssd, likely more to do with the EFI partition on your ssd, where the grub boot menu for your…
