Acer Swift 3 (SF314-42) AMD Ryzen 4000 series - no Thunderbolt 3, so what will be the HDMI version?

Hello there,
Since we already know that new 2020 Swift 3 with AMD Ryzen 4000 series won't have Thunderbolt 3, my question is will it have at least HDMI 2.0b? No Thunderbolt 3 means no 4K with HDR, so maybe HDMI 2.0b will rescue these models. So far Acer has put HDMI 1.4b to Swift 3 laptops with either Intel or AMD processors. It would be a pity to see 2020 AMD Ryzen 4000 models without HDMI 2.0b.

@mafeifei some versions of USB-C support displays, some support only HDMI and some don't support displays at all without a docking station.

No. Not with the 100% certainty you want. I can only guess that it will probably NOT be v2b. Jack E/NJ

That would be really strange since new Radeon Vega on Ryzen 4000 series supports HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort 1.4. New Thinkpad T14 with AMD processors will have HDMI 2.0b. Let's hope new Acer Swift 3 will have that as well.

Stranger things have happened. Still no 100% guarantees either way  :)   Jack E/NJ

The best "rumour" sofar on the SF314-42 is here https://www.ultrabookreview.com/35126-acer-swift-3-2020/.

I am disappointed that the laptop will not support USB C charging - only 10 GB data transport, so I would not expect it will upgrade the HDMI port. The screen seems also to be mediocre like the standard Swift screens.

So if you are looking for a thin Ryzen 4000 laptop with better specs - I dont expect TB3 support, because only Intel laptops seems to support this sofar - then watch this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDLaptops/comments/fw02jz/ryzen_4000_series_laptop_guide_megathread/.

The Lenovo Slim 7 is a good candidate, but expect a hefty price 1000$+ ex VAT for 4700U and better specs - screen, usb charging, larger battery - https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/coming-soon/IdeaPad-Slim-7-14ARE05/p/88IPS701400

Thanks a lot ed4myra! Lenovo Slim 7 looks pretty good. Thinkpad T14 looks promising too. It will have HDMI 2.0b as I was assured in Lenovo forums. What is really bugging me is the fact that Acer, Lenovo etc. would not provide information on their websites about version of HDMI in most models. Well at least there is psref in Lenovo. Acer Support is weak in this point. I know that this is community forum with users of Acer products, but for example in Lenovo forums there are Lenovo representatives to help with providing information about their products. Here? Nothing, pity.
