Chromebooks are designed for efficiency, and keyboard shortcuts play a key role in boosting productivity. While Chrome OS offers many built-in shortcuts, you may want to customize them to better suit your workflow. Viewing and Customizing Keyboard Shortcuts
On your Chromebook, you can customize the keyboard shortcuts that perform different functions. Follow these steps to access and modify them:
1. Accessing Keyboard Shortcut Settings
- Click on the Clock in the lower-right corner.
- Click Settings (gear icon).
- In the left column, click Device, then on the right, click Keyboard and inputs.
- Scroll down and click View keyboard shortcuts.
2. Viewing Existing Shortcuts
When the keyboard shortcut window opens, you will see a list of all existing shortcuts categorized into:
- General
- Device
- Browser
- Text
- Windows and Desks
- Accessibility
3. Editing a Shortcut
If you want to change a shortcut:
- Click the Edit icon to the right of it.
- Click the Edit icon again to modify an existing shortcut or click Add shortcut to enter a new key combination.
- Press the key combination you want to use. Now, both the new and old shortcuts will work.
- If the combination is already in use, Chrome OS will notify you and show what it’s assigned to.
4. Deleting a Shortcut
- Click the Delete icon to the right of the shortcut you want to remove.
- Some shortcuts have a lock icon, indicating they cannot be modified.
5. Resetting Shortcuts to Default
If you have made multiple changes and want to reset everything:
- Click Reset all shortcuts in the lower-left corner.
- A confirmation message will appear—click Reset to restore default settings.
