How to Create and Use a Different Sign-in Password on a Chromebook

In a recent ChromeOS update, the option to create and sign-in to your Chromebook with a password that is different from your Google Account password was added. Now you will be able to sign-in to your Chromebook with your Google Account password, a custom password, or a PIN.

How to create and use a different sign-in password

Select the Clock in the lower right corner.
Select the gear icon to open the Settings⚙️ application.
On the left side of the Settings window, select Privacy and security.
On the right side, select Lock screen and sign-in.
Enter your current password or PIN to verify your identity.
Locate Password and select Set up.
Enter the desired password you would like to use. This will be the new password that you use to sign-in to your user account on this specific device.
Enter the password again and select Confirm.

Note: This password will not change your Google account password that you use to login to Gmail or other Google services. This password will only be used to sign-in and make changes to your user account on this specific ChromeOS device.
