In a recent ChromeOS update, the option to create and sign-in to your Chromebook with a password that is different from your Google Account password was added. Now you will be able to sign-in to your Chromebook with your Google Account password, a custom password, or a PIN.
How to create and use a different sign-in password
- Select the Clock in the lower right corner.
- Select the gear icon to open the Settings⚙️ application.
- On the left side of the Settings window, select Privacy and security.
- On the right side, select Lock screen and sign-in.
- Enter your current password or PIN to verify your identity.
- Locate Password and select Set up.
- Enter the desired password you would like to use. This will be the new password that you use to sign-in to your user account on this specific device.
- Enter the password again and select Confirm.
Note: This password will not change your Google account password that you use to login to Gmail or other Google services. This password will only be used to sign-in and make changes to your user account on this specific ChromeOS device.
