The Shelf on ChromeOS allows you to quickly access applications and files on your Chromebook. Along with customizing the location of the shelf, you can also automatically hide the shelf when an application is open. Hiding the application shelf can make your Chromebook screen feel bigger by allowing the application to take up the entire screen.
How to hide the application shelf (taskbar)
- Right-click on an empty area of the application shelf.
- In the menu that appears, select Autohide shelf.
Now when an application is open, the shelf will be hidden.
How to access the hidden application shelf
Drag your mouse to where the application shelf would be and it will appear again. By default, the application shelf is on the bottom of the screen. If you changed the shelf position to left or right, drag your mouse the corresponding way.
Note: If no applications are open, the shelf will stay on the screen until an application is opened.
