The Shelf on ChromeOS allows users to quickly access applications and files on their Chromebook. Along with customizing the location of the shelf, users can also automatically hide the shelf when an application is open. Hiding the application shelf can make your Chromebook screen feel bigger by allowing the application to take up the entire screen.
How to Hide the Application Shelf (Taskbar)
- Right-click on an empty area of the application shelf.
- In the menu that appears, select Autohide shelf.
- Now when an application is open, the shelf will be hidden.
- To access the shelf when an application is open, drag your mouse to where the shelf would be.
Note: If no applications are open, the shelf will stay on the screen until an application is opened.
