Where can I find the function keys on my Chromebook?
You may have asked "Where are the function keys on a Chromebook?" because the keyboard does not have labeled function keys like a traditional notebook computer. There are two ways to use function keys on your Acer Chromebook. The first method uses the Launcher key to temporarily enable function keys. The second method turns the top row of the keyboard into function keys. Here are the two methods explained so that you can enable and use the Chromebook function keys.
How to turn on function keys temporarily
- Press and hold the Search/Launcher 🔍 key.
- Press the key that corresponds to the keyboard function key that you would like to use:
- Use an F1-F9 function by pressing the Search/Launcher 🔍 + 1-9 keys.
- Use F10 by pressing the Search/Launcher 🔍 + 0 keys.
- Use F11 by pressing the Search/Launcher 🔍 + hyphen(-) keys.
- Use F12 by pressing the Search/Launcher 🔍 + plus(+) keys.
- To see more Chromebook keyboard function keys, press Ctrl + Alt + /.
How to enable Chromebook function keys on the top row of the keyboard
- Click on the time in bottom right corner of your screen and then press Settings ⚙.
- Locate the Device menu on the left and then click on Keyboard.
- Find the option labeled Treat top-row keys as function keys and enable the toggle to turn on the keyboard function keys.
Using this method will disable the original functions of the top row keys and turn them into traditional function keys. If you choose this method and would like to use the top row keys on the keyboard, you can press the Search/Launcher key while pressing the key you want to use.
