I know that this has to be the Display driver even though you are updated to the latest but please indulge me.
Download the latest Graphics drivers to your desktop. Boot into safe mode and navigate to Device Manager, expand Display Adapters and right click the dedicated Graphics card then click Disable and do this with the integrated if you have both. Click restart in Safe mode, when it restarts (and I have a hunch it will), then reinstall your graphics drivers from the file you downloaded to your desktop then restart again in normal mode

Please click YES if I answered your question

Well I did everything exactly step by step as you suggested...
    no joy  :/

then I went back and did it all over again but this time I did it with safe mode and network-enabled so it could check the internet for more recent drivers than what I found...
at the end of the day it made absolutely no difference whatsoever...

Hey it was worth a shot. We have not failed yet!
we just found a whole lot of ways not to fix the problem!
    hahaha!  =)

  • Do the following:
    a) First turn off the wireless;
    b) Then go to the device manager and then uninstall and delete the drivers for the intel and nvidia video card:

    c) Restart the notebook and make sure the black screen appears again!
    If it does, do so:
    a) go to the intel website and update all drivers and also the IRST program: https://www.intel.com.br/content/www/br/pt/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html
    b) update the nvidia driver too: https://www.geforce.com/drivers

He's done all that, it's basically the same steps as above because after disabling the drivers he booted into Safe Mode without networking then reinstalled the latest drivers. This is what he did

Yeah I just performed every single one of those steps the only difference was that did it in safe mode which means it was a more thorough removal of the original drivers then if I had done it in Windows...

the first time I did it was with safe mode only no networking drivers...

the second time I did it was with network turned on...

I still got the black screen on restart between every single time not once did it restart without me doing a hard power off.

and Acer, Intel, and Nvidia GeForce are all three telling me I have the absolute latest best drivers available for my machine at this time!

Could you try it again but this time Uninstall the 2 Display adapter cards instead of Disabling them. Boot into Safe Mode without networking to ensure that the system doesn't go hunting the web for drivers

Yep same difference this time I even went so far as to do it one more time and deleted the drivers that point I almost felt like it was about to brick my computer eventually managed to get them reinstalled from the copies I had downloaded I had to do it one at a time and do it and safe mode and then turn the computer off and back on before I can get them to register but I did and it's still just like it was didn't make a ***** bit of difference

I really don't think it's the display drivers and I'll tell you why
when I click the restart button it goes to the blue screen with the circling dots saying restarting and then the screen goes black but the keyboard lights never turn off so the computer never actually shuts down it hangs right there and I've left it for up to 24 hours and it never does anything else

now once I do a hard power down by holding the power button for 20 or 30 seconds it shuts down completely and then when I hit the power button again it will start right up lickety split Fast too but it never completely shuts down on restart

it just doesn't seem like it has anything to do with the video drivers there's something that's stopping it from completely shutting down on restart

I wish I knew of some way to get it not to show that blue screen that says restarting and instead show me a list of everything that's doing as it's doing it so I can see where it's breaking down or where it's hanging up but I don't know how to do that not in Windows 10

2 questions, Do you use Chrome? Is the cursor still visible on the Black screen. It appears there is a background process that is preventing shutdown but only on restart because you force close it when you power off with the button.

This is a fix I found for the same problem, the fix came from a Microsoft level 2 tech so it's worth a try

    1. Go to Device Manager -> Network adapters -> Network Card -> right click -> Properties -> Power Management -> Make sure the first two boxes are checked, then apply and exit.

    2. Windows Key + R -> gpedit.msc -> Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings ->Local Policies -> Security Options -> find this entry "Shutdown: Clear virtual memory pagefile" -> right click -> Properties -> check "Disabled", then apply and exit.

If this doesn't work go here and go to directly to Method 2 and Method 3

That's what I think too and yes I do use Chrome I cannot stand the Microsoft web browser and I'm not a real fan of Firefox either

I will have to look at the other two methods because gpedit.msc only exists in Windows 10 Pro it's not in the home version I've tried before to pull that up and it says file don't exist

Well I did everything except for the gpedit.msc because as I said that don't work in the home version of Windows 10 but I did do all the other steps well I didn't reset Windows because I don't feel like losing all my software just yet and having to reinstall all that ***** but it may come to that

However I am considering upgrading to Windows Pro I have the keys I have the install disc it's just a matter of doing it and then making another backup that would give me a access to gpedit.msc and I ran into that in a couple of different places were they wanted you to try it although I don't believe my virtual memory page file is set to be cleared on shutdown

Somehow we're missing something pretty obvious I just don't know what it is I can't get my head around it I think the next thing I'm going to do is in the morning I'm going to take a video of what it's doing when I try to shut down and what it's doing when I try to restart because if I just do a basic shut down whether I go to the start menu and tell it to shut down or whether I use the power button and shut it down it shuts down and shuts down all the way and when I go to restart to the press the power button and it comes right up

however, when I go to the start menu and select restart that's when I have my problem so I think I'll make a video to show both ways and then stick it on YouTube and I'll post the link to it back here but that's going to be tomorrow morning because it's late and I need to go to bed

    everybody have a good evening!

No problem I'll get to that in just a few minutes and I'll get back with you right now I'm in the process of trying to upload a video I made this morning of the actual problem as soon as I get that done I'll go back and do what you suggest
