No, not possible. You might be able to upgrade the vga in laptops which have different revisions with faster vga, because usually the mb layout is the same. However that needs a lot of bga work. However rtx is out of the question, it is too different architecture. Check the mb, if there is space for 2 extra vmemory…

Unfortunately the Helios 300 does not have a great cooling system and both the cpu and gpu are linked together with the same heatpipes so they are also heating each other. There are 3 ways to lower the cpu temp: - repaste the CPU with a better quality thermal paste. I recommend MX4. Many people like Kryonaut too which can…

They are 99% the same. Only difference I can think about is the ODD bay part. G5 has a metal place holder at the odd part . Not counting this they are the same. For example the G5 alsó also have the empty space for the g9's subwoofer. The upper part is 100% the same. G5 and G9 are technically the same laptop with the g9's…

No, at least I did not find any. Oh well, I was able to fix the battery drain problem by just flashing back the old vbios with 170W tdp limit. The extra 30W this way is enough for the laptop to function without needing to touch the battery during gaming. Moral of the story: do not increase the vga to 200W, expesially when…

I did not want to make a new thread so I ask here...is it normal for the CPU to downclock when the discharging battery reaches 30% and stay doenlocked until battery reaches 40%?
-
Or does anyone have access to the service manual ? If yes please check and tell me how can I initiate an EC reset. There are no pins that can be connected to trigger an EC reset. Acer implemented some other trick in this laptop .

I have a modded bios but it has too many bugs. The last straw was that the laptop is draining battery while gaming but when it reaches 30% the CPU ratio gets locked to x28. If I disconnect the AC adapter the CPU ratio gets unlocked. So I want to reflash the original bios. I have the unmodded .bin file but the inside…

It contains mandatory security fixes. Also my current bios has bugs and many times locks the CPU at x28 ratio.

if you are lucky then a cable is just pressing to the back of the LCD panel. Remove the LCD panel and check if there is a cable there. If you are not so lucky then it is permanent physical damage to the LCD panel, which was caused by external force.

What you are seeing is perfectly normal for a laptop. The reason why you see pwr throttling is because the gtx 1060 GPU was designed to use up to 120W power, however to keep temps low Acer lowered the tdp of the gpu to 78W. tl;dr: the GPU wants to use 110-120W power but the vbios is limiting it to 78W and thus it is power…

You need to completely remove the bottom panel. You will also need a hdd case to hold the new hdd/ssd and you will also need an extender. I modded my G5, you can find pictures of the inside here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/acer-predator-g5-modding.826771/

Did you enable Coolboost in Acer Quick Acces or in your Predator software ? This can help to lower temps. However the Helios 300 and Aspire laptops of the same category have the same 1 loop cooling design with 2 fans at the same radiator so temps will never be perfect even if it yyou repaste. If you want to lower them to…

2 things can happen: 1) brightness control will not work 2) G-Sync function will not work 2) is 90% to happen, 1) is 50% to happen, maybe more like 60%. Don!t forget to buy a new eDP cable, your current panel is using a 30 pin cable, however new 120/144hz IPS and TN panels use 40 pin cable.

You cant. However in Game Sync you can manually add apps where you want the cpu tdp boost and overclock to automatically kick in. If you want the cpu tdp to be higher all the time than 45W and if you want more than 56.250W, then you need an unlocked bios. However in this case you need to uninstall PS or else it will…

Uninstall the driver using DDU. Newer Nvidia drivers might have issues like the one you described. I recommend using Acer made drivers. The latest driver is 388.93 available at the Helios 500 driver page. Conpared to latest Nvidia drivets it gives better 3DMark score and smoother frames when I play with my G5-793.

Oh, the new TDP after vBIOS mod (after running 1 Fire Strike test): A bit higher than the default 78W :astonished:
-
UpdateFound the vBIOS!It is NOT stored in the system bios, it is on a separate Macronix MX25U4033E chip! (as I suspected) The chip is on the same side as the System BIOS and EC chip (the other side of the motherboard). Default TDP is 78W for the VGA and with OC maximum graphics score I was able to get was 12200 points in…

If it is not built in the system bios, then yes.

If I remember correctly both bios and ec are stored on 1-1 Winbond chip in the g5, or I am not remembering correctly and the system bios in the g5 is not stored on a Winbond chip like the EC and MX25U4033E Is actually the system bios chip and nvflash is reading the vbios from the bios (meaning the vbios is built inside the…

Not exactly :) The TDP of the card is stored in the vbios. Vbios= bios of the video card and not the system bios. These are 2 different things The reason why people are using shunt mod is because if you change the TDP in the vbios it will loose it's cheksum and nvflash will not allot it to be flashed from windows or dos .…
