Updating the BIOS on your Acer Nitro can optimize performance, improve security, and help with hardware compatibility issues. Typically, if your system is functioning well and you're not experiencing any issues, a BIOS update is not necessary. BIOS updates are usually necessary when adding new hardware to a device or if you have exhausted all troubleshooting methods.
Before updating your BIOS, verify what version of BIOS your computer is currently on:
- Click on the Start ⊞ button
- Search and open System Information
- In the System Information window, locate BIOS Version/Date
- Take note of your current BIO version, then close the System Information window
To Update the BIOS on a Acer Nitro:
- Open your browser and navigate to support.acer.com
- In the left column, click Drivers and Manuals
- In the search box, enter your Serial Number, SNID, or Model Number
- Press Enter
- On your device's product page, scroll down, and locate and expand the BIOS/Firmware section
- In this section you'll find each BIOS update, the version, and when it was released
- Locate the BIOS version that you are wanting to install and click Download
- Once the download is complete, open File Explorer and locate where you saved the file
- Right-click on the file, click Extract All, then click Extract
- When the file is extracted, a new window will open and you will see an executable (.exe) file
- Double-click on the file to run it
- If a Microsoft Defender warning appears, click More Info, then click Run anyway
- When Windows asks if you want to allow the app to make changes, select Yes
- A Flash firmware tool will automatically appear
- The tool will show you the current BIOS version, as well as the BIOS version that you're updating to
- When ready, you'll receive a warning that you're about to update your system firmware, click OK
- Your computer will run through the upgrade process and restart when complete
- Once Windows loads, check the BIOS/Firmware in System Information to confirm that you are on the updated BIOS
