You can customize how your search displays and indexes the search results by changing your search permissions. The Search permission page has various functions such as SafeSearch, cloud content search, and history. These settings offer various functions, such as customizing search content results, syncing your search history with different accounts, and choosing whether Windows will save your search history.
SafeSearch
Safe search allows you to keep adult content out of the web previews of your search. Instead of showing the content, it will display a button that says See web results. Clicking this box will open the content in your web browser.
- Click on Start ⊞ and select Settings ⚙.
- Click on Privacy & security and then select Search permissions.
- Under SafeSearch, select your preference:
- Moderate - Filter image and video but not text, and will default to your Bing.com Settings page.
- Strict - Filter all results, including image, video, and text, and will override any setting on your Bing.com Settings page.
- Off - Turn off Safesearch. No filter in web results.
Cloud Content Search
Cloud content search allows you to personalize your Windows Search by connecting it with accounts for other Microsoft apps.
- Click on Start ⊞ and select Settings ⚙.
- Click on Privacy & security and then select Search permissions.
- Set the toggle switch next to Microsoft account and Work or School account to On according to your preference.
Add new accounts to Cloud Content Search
- Click on Start ⊞ and select Settings ⚙.
- Click on Accounts and select Email & accounts.
- Under Accounts used by other apps, select Add a Microsoft account or Add a work or school account.
Search History
Windows Search will save your history locally to speed up search results.
- Click on Start ⊞ and select Settings ⚙.
- Click on Privacy & security and then select Search permissions.
- Set the toggle switch for Search History on this Device to On.
Change settings for Search History in the Cloud
You can also change your settings for search history in the cloud.
- Click on Start ⊞ and select Settings ⚙.
- Click on Privacy & security and then select Search permissions.
- Under View and delete your search history in the cloud, click on Privacy dashboard to adjust more advanced settings.
Include or exclude web searches from search suggestions
You can control whether or not your search suggestions should include or exclude your web searches.
- Click on Start ⊞ and select Settings ⚙.
- Click on Privacy & security and then select Search permissions.
- Under Include or exclude your web searches from search suggestions, click on Bing search history settings.
