In Windows, deleted files temporarily live in the Recycle Bin, where you are allowed to recover the files as needed. Whether the file was recently deleted or deleted 30+ days ago, you are can use either the keyboard shortcut or access the Recycle Bin to restore your deleted files.
How to restore a deleted file using the keyboard shortcut
- Hold down Ctrl + Z to undo the action.
How to restore a deleted file from the recycle bin
- On the taskbar, select the Windows ⊞ icon.
- Search for Recycle Bin and press Enter on your keyboard to open the application.
- Locate the file you wish to restore in the Recycle Bin.
- Once located, right-click on the file and select Restore. The file will be restored to the location it was at when deletion occurred.
Note: If you do not know when the file was deleted, you can search for the file by name, file type, creation date, etc.
