Why is my new computer slow?
When you setup your new Acer computer for the first time, the Windows operating system will need to perform updates to make sure your system is up to date. Although you can still use your product while updates are downloading and installing, your system performance will be impacted and your product may be slow to respond.
To receive the best user experience, we recommend you allow your system to download and install all Windows operating system and Windows Store updates before you begin using your product. Your system performance will improve once all of the updates have been applied. Use the instructions below to ensure all updates have been applied to your system. You must be connected to the internet to download and install Windows updates.
Windows Updates
- Click the Start menu and select Settings.
- Click Update & security.
- Click Windows Update. Windows will automatically check for updates and automatically download and install them if any are available.
- Verify that all updates have been completely installed. Updates that are still downloading or installing will be shown as in the image below.
- Reboot your computer once the updates have completed and repeat the update process to check for additional updates.
Windows Store Updates
- Click the Start menu and select Microsoft Store.
- Click the icon in the upper right corner.
- Click Downloads and updates.
- Click Get updates.
- Wait until all programs are updated, then close the Windows Store window.
- Reboot your computer once the updates have completed and repeat the update process to check for additional updates.
Note: Norton security scans and updates are designed to occur in the background during idle times and should have minimal impact on system performance.
