What can I do if Windows gives an error that my PIN is not available due to a change in security settings?
If you are unable to sign-in to your system using your PIN, we recommend you log in with your Windows password and reset your PIN. Use the instructions below to reset your PIN.
- Click Sign-in Options and click the Key icon to allow you to sign-in to your computer using your standard Windows password or Microsoft account password.
- Click the Start menu and select Settings.
- Click Sign-in Options and select Remove.
- Click Remove again to confirm.
- Restart your computer.
- Sign-in to your computer using your standard Windows password or Microsoft account password.
- Click the Start menu and select Settings.
- Click Sign-in Options.
- Scroll down to the PIN section and click Add.
- Enter and confirm your new PIN, then click OK.
If you do not have an option to sign in using your password, you will need to reset Windows to remove the old PIN. Make sure to use the option to "Keep my files". Use the steps below to reset Windows and remove your old PIN.
- Hold the Shift key and click the Power icon in the lower right corner.
- Continue holding shift and select Restart.
- Select Troubleshoot.
- Choose Reset this PC.
- Select the option Keep my files.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reset Windows. Once the reset is complete, you should now be able to login with your password.
