How can I change my password to protect against the Intel AMT Security Issue:AMT provisioning does not require BIOS password?
Acer has recently become aware of a security vulnerability that allows the Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) default password to be used for unauthorized access into the system. We strongly recommend customers provision devices that support Intel Active Management Technology and change their Intel Management Engine BIOS Extension (MEBx) password before use. We will continue working with Intel to notify customers and setup a webpage with detailed information on security best practices.
Use the instructions below to change the default password on your system.
ME Password setup
- Press and hold the Power button for five seconds to turn the system completely off.
- Power the system on and press Ctrl + P as soon as the Acer logo appears. This will enter the Management Engine BIOS Extension screen shown below.
- Enter admin as the password.
- Follow the instructions on your screen to create a new password.
