The speakers are not making a sound, unplugged audio cable from monitor and plug in a speaker sound is fine so not pc or pc settings
Is there a setting or switch on the monitor

Go to sounds on the bottom right side of your screen and select sounds option. Or go to hardware and sounds in control panel. Hit playback devices and change the sources.

Monitors usually don't allow "mixed" inputs.

The 3.5mm audio input is tied up with VGA video input.

If you use HDMI video input, you also have to use HDMI audio input.

Which model of the QG271 do you have? Is the audio jack an input or output? On some models in that line there are no speakers installed and the jack is an output to connect speakers to play the HDMI sound.

christy1 I have the right source selected in sound options
Joe9844 billsey, The input is correct this was working for 6 months no issues it just stopped.
If I have not missed something I am thinking it is just faulty

More likely something has muted the volume for that output device. There's not a lot that can go wrong hardware-wise.

might be because of the update or drivers also. Try reinstalling the drives or roll back drivers in device manager. if still try to install the drivers from acer site.

    It's much simpler than that.

His computer had HDMI audio driver as default --- so he had sound on his monitor. He didn't realize that the 3.5mm cable that he hooked up a thousand years ago served no purpose at all. Microsoft started pushing OS updates and driver updates via windows update --- causing the default to switch to realtek driver (and so no audio for his monitor).

ok, I had a good look at all the sound and drivers tonight, there was no option for HDMI in my setting so I went to the device manager and forced sound to install amd hdmi drivers (i have a radeon 580 card) after reboot it worked, so Joe9844 is correct, not sure why then acer instructs you if you want sound to connect it too realtek sound port. thanks all
