BFGTECH If you have dust in the fans as u stated i suggest you to open it clean it including the airflow exit and while you do it repaste it with kryonaut or similar

BFGTECH chance of destroying the motherboard what do you mean ? by disassembling it to clean it there are videos on how to disassemble it and clean it u just have to give it a search you also have the option to use compressed air cans to clean the fans which its the easiest way but i dont recommend it you might damage the fans if you do it wrong theres much less chance of damaging the fans by disassembling it to clean it using the proper tools of course and alwasys perform the full maintenance clean fans and repaste it ( if was never done or done a long time ago)

BFGTECH theres no way to really know until all possible fixes are tried :) but dont exclude the mobo issues i would start by doing some maintenance on it and go from there

    Hello,

I just wanted to say thank you for helping me out with my laptop, I really appreciate the it. I finally got the electrical tape to apply to the load spring, and it worked. I wanted to share some photos showing that the load spring is easily accessible by removing the hard drive cover, and not the entire back cover. And all you have to do is apply the tape over a section of the back cover that presses it. Hopefully these pics will be helpful to someone else.

    Thank you again.

Hi guys, have the same problem and read and tried the different suggestions. Still, all that happens is the red light comes on. I noticed a few differences in my situation: I can't force shutdown the computer anymore by holding the power button, only by pressing in the battery reset pinhole. This started only after I used the battery reset pinhole the first time. Secondly, I noticed that if I manually hold spring lever closed, which would be held down by the cover, and turn on the computer, still only the red light comes on. However, if I let go of the spring lever, the power immediately cuts and the light turns off. This would seem to imply that the lever was always being pressed down in the first place. Also not sure what this implies about the OPs problem. Help!

Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the lithium battery? Also, was the battery reset done like this?

Thanks for responding. That's more or less how I used the pinhole reset.
How would I disconnect the battery?

Is your notebook under warranty? Are you sure the switch button is being properly pressed?

    Sadly not under warranty.
Currently, since it won't respond to a hard shutdown, the only way to at least get the red power light to turn off is using the pinhole reset. So I'm pretty sure that is being pressed properly. I've even held it down for several minutes at a time.

Let me check if I get it: does your laptop turn on normally? Does the Acer logo appear on the display?

No, the only thing that happens is the red power light turns on. No fan and power up noise, no screen changes.

I'm not sure if this swtich button is actually being pressed. Try placing some layers of electrical tape to push it further:

Also, have you checked to see if the power adapter is working properly?
