You should probably have a modem, which is connected in the adsl line or in the fiber optic cable and a router that transmits the signal to the devices! Have you tried resetting the main modem?

I live in an apartment block so would I have to contact my internet provider regarding the modem? I only have the router in my apartment. They have done some resets (not sure to what as they did it remotely) but it made no difference. They then claimed the problem was either with my laptops or my router.0

Could you try rolling back the driver for the wireless port?
1) Press Windows key and X
2) left click Device Manager
3) left click network adapters
4) right click on your wireless port device
5) left click driver tab
6) left click rollback driver
After completing this, try the speed test again before Windows updates the driver.

Thank you egydiocoelho, I have run the file but still no difference to the wifi. I have tested it on different channels (auto, 1, 6 amd 11) but I am getting no more than 20mbps on any of the channels.0

I did as you asked, however only have the following options which I have reset as below:
DO PacketCoalescing: Changed from disable to enable
Dynamic MIMO power save: It only gives the options of enable or disable, at present it is set to disable
Network Address: Currently set to 'Not present'
Preferred band: Already on 'No preference'
Roaming Aggressiveness: Already on 'Medium"
Wireless Mode: I tried changing it from 12-11a/b/g/n/ac to 06-11a (as it doesn't have 6. Dual Band 802.11a/b/g) however I lost my wifi on this so have put it back to 12-11a/b/g/n/ac to 06-11a
