Acer Aspire One
I have the Acer Aspire One D257 13473 Netbook.
I have lost the use of the WiFi and clicking on FN+F3 is not working to turn it on... in the device manager there is not a Wlan wireless adapter listed under the network adapter section... Have been using the Wifi internet connection for about 4 years.. now cannot connect with WiFi.. not sure what happened to it.. just quit working
one day... since it is not showing in the device manager now.. .does it disappear from the device manager if it goes bad? I can download and resinstall the drivers but don't know which wlan adapter is in the netbook.. I've been searching but not sure if it is Atheros or Broadcom ... if I download the drivers and install will the WiFi adapter show back up in the device manager..?
I've installed hardware and updated drivers before but usually if they are listed in the device manager and no drivers, it appears with the yellow exclamation point.. but this WiFi adapter has totally disappeared from the device manager so am stumped on this one as to what to do and how to get it back in there... if it is because the wifi adapter card is bad then will need to replace it...
thanks

Okay... downloaded the Wlan Atheros drivers for windows 7 and did an install.. got the wireless working again.. once I installed (and was hoping that this was the correct one since I couldn't find documentation as to what was actually in the computer) I tried to turn on the Wifi with the FN/F3 keys and finally got it to turn on and went online Wireless..
Took me about 4-6 hours to finally get established...
still have yellow exclamation points showing the PCI controller and the Video controller under Other Devices and can't find what is needed yet to elmimate those errors... showing code 28 on them... I've done an update Driver from online but nothing is found... so not sure what to do with them... but am able to now get online Wireless
thanks

PCI controller can be Intel chipset:
Video controller, probably is Intel VGA
if after installing those 2 drivers, the yellow exclamation mark is still present:
Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager.
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.Where you see the Yellow exclamation mark, double click it, choose "Details" tab, from the dropdown menu choose "HardwareIDs", click the first string and copy/paste it here.

went to that driver page to download from there... the chipset still comes back and says Failed-network error
the VGA driver is downloading now... tried the chipset three times and can't get it to download... not sure what the issue is... my net here is slow (am in India)... but not that bad... the one is downloading.. will try the chipset again when it is complete..
If I can get it downloaded.. will let you know what happens when I do install... hopefully will work...
thanks for the driver page...

they work on my PC, if you have a third party antivirus, like Avast...temporary disable it.

uninstall AVG, please, it's killing your netbook, to heavy to manage.
use Microsoft security essential, it's lighter on system and 100% free:

Oh okay.. thanks will do that

uninstall AVG, reboot and then try to install chipset again.
if you still have Acer recovery software installed, you can try to re-install factory drivers.

it's not a button but a drop down menu, under Property click on Device description and then choose from the list hardwareID.
