My laptop had gone very slow so i decided to perform Windows 11 Clean install, just like my other Laptop. But i encounter a problem where when i tried to install it keeps failing like on this image:

I already downloaded the correct IRST from the driver listed on my product. So i don't know what is the problem here?

Windows 11 Clean Install – IRST Setup & PredatorSense Recovery Clarification

Hi Lytericus, You're on the right track prepping IRST for your WD BLACK SN850X install — that’s essential on newer Intel platforms with VMD enabled. Since you're installing Windows 11 on a brand new SSD, just a quick heads-up:

🧩 PredatorSense Recovery won’t be available in this context because:

    • The tool depends on Acer’s original recovery partition, which only exists on factory-installed drives.
    • After replacing the boot drive, that partition is no longer present, so PredatorSense won’t show the reinstall feature.

🛠️ Good move using RUFUS instead of the Media Creation Tool:

    • You can select GPT for UEFI directly and preload the IRST driver folder onto the same USB stick.
    • It’s also more flexible — letting you tweak install parameters if needed.

    🔧 Quick Install Checklist:

    • BIOS: Ensure VMD is enabled, Secure Boot can stay ON for Win11 unless you’re sideloading
    • USB: Use RUFUS with Windows 11 ISO + IRST driver folder (unzipped)
    • During setup: Load drivers manually via “Load Driver” if SSD isn’t detected

Once the IRST driver loads successfully, your SN850X should appear in the installer without issues.

    Hi Lytericus,
🛠️ Windows 11 Install Fails – IRST, VMD, and SSD Fix Checklist

If setup is still failing even after loading the correct IRST driver, here are key things to check on newer Acer models like the PHN-1672:

    1. BIOS Settings
      • Ensure SATA Mode is set to RAID (not AHCI) — this activates Intel VMD, which is required for SSD detection during install.
      • Disable CSM, but keep Secure Boot enabled for Windows 11.
      • VMD must be active for IRST to function.
    2. IRST Driver
      • Use the exact IRST version listed for the PHN-1672.
      • Load it manually during setup via “Load Driver” screen.
    3. WD SN850X SSD
      • Check firmware using WD Dashboard — some units require updates before Windows Setup sees them correctly.
      • If SSD is brand new, verify it's properly initialized or visible in BIOS.
    4. Boot Media Tips
      • Reflash ISO with RUFUS, GPT/UEFI settings.
      • Avoid MBR or legacy boot options.

✅ Once VMD is enabled and the correct IRST is loaded, your SN850X should be recognized in the installer without issue. If not, firmware or boot media is likely the blocker.

Hi, press Ctrl+S in BIOS-Main to show the hidden settings.

    Hey Lytericus,

Thanks for confirming VMD is already active. On the PHN-1672, the usual trick to reveal hidden SATA/RAID settings is pressing Ctrl + S while on the Main tab in BIOS. If that doesn’t expose the options, it’s possible your BIOS version doesn’t support toggling between RAID and AHCI — especially on builds where Intel VMD handles storage directly.

Here are a few things to check:

    • ✅ Use the built-in keyboard to trigger hotkeys — external ones might not register early enough during POST.
    • 🔄 Make sure you're on the latest BIOS version. Sometimes newer revisions restore hidden menus or improve IRST compatibility.
    • 🔍 Even if SATA/RAID toggle is missing, with VMD enabled and the correct IRST driver loaded during setup, your WD SN850X should still be detected.
    • ⚙️ Double-check other BIOS tabs too — some users find visibility improves if CSM is disabled and Secure Boot remains ON.

If you’re still hitting the same install error, it might be worth scanning the SSD with WD Dashboard — firmware quirks have blocked detection before.

Try and use the newest IRST driver version 20.2.1.1016.4 and see if that fixes the installation problem, as if you have the BIOS > BOOT > UEFI setting that is the proper setting for the bios to install Win-11 version 24H2. Also, delete all partitions on the boot drive and then fresh format the M.2 SSD with the Clean Install of Win-11, if the installation still can't install its the M.2 SSD drive that is faulty, use a new drive. Good luck.
