Touchpad stopped working after BIOS 1.07 and Win 11 pro on Aspire A315-44P

I just bought an A315-44P. Upgraded the software to Windows 11 Professional, as I'm using it for work on a domain. Also upgraded the BIOS to 1.07. During that upgrade, the touchpad stopped working. I can see this is a common problem and have literally done everything with no success, including:

  1. Pressing F7 to see if it can enable/disable touchpad (nothing happens).
  2. Going into the BIOS, Ctrl-S to display TouchPad settings, and ensuring it is set to I2C (it is).
  3. Checking all drivers to ensure successful install/no errors. (see below for installed components…the 2nd HID-compliant mouse is the USB mouse I'm using now). devicemgr.jpg

4. Ensuring that Touchpad is turned on/enabled in the Windows touchpad settings (it is).

The only thing I can see is that on my Drivers page (I reinstalled all ASUS Windows 11 drivers from this page after the upgrade to Windows 11 Pro), it states "Before installing the Touchpad driver, please install the Serial I/O driver first." But there is no Serial I/O driver on my drivers download page, nor can I find one available anywhere else. There's also not a specific Touchpad driver listed, but the I2C drivers install as part of the chipset drivers package.

Has anyone encountered and addressed this? I'm normally quite comfortable/competent in managing these things, and have even done a second fresh windows 11 PRO install, but still have the issue. Also, the laptop came w/Windows 11 Home installed, and the touchpad did work when I first booted up prior to the Windows upgrade…so I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware issue.

Appreciate any help…don't really have more time to spend on this for a work PC for an employee at my small business…I'll just return and go with a different brand, especially if it's signs of things to come…but would prefer to just fix it if possible.

Thx,

-Chris

For anyone else with this issue (and perhaps I'm just an [Content Removed], but I didn't see it anywhere else), on that particular laptop the combo to turn off the touchpad is Fn-F10, not Fn-F7. Literally everything I'd seen here said F7…but will leave this out here in case others have the issue.

The touchpad toggle key for this model is the F10 key. Try pressing the Fn key along with F10 key or only tap the F10 to check if you can enable the touchpad. No separate drivers are needed, the touchpad driver are automatically installed with you install windows 11. The default value in BIOS is I2C mode.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

If your cursor will not move or your touchpad is not working at all:-

    1. Remove connected devices - Remove all devices that are connected to the system except for the power cord. This includes external keyboard, mouse, flash drives, hard drives and other peripherals.
    2. Enable/disable your touchpad - Many systems allow you to turn the touchpad On or Off by pressing a key combination. On most models it is FN + F7 or FN + F2, but could also be a different function key. The touchpad function key will be labeled with one of the images below. disable touchpad icons.png
    3. Restart your computer - Restarting your system may help your touchpad start responding again.
    4. Reset BIOS or UEFI to default settings - Some systems have touchpad settings in the BIOS/UEFI.
    5. Reinstall touchpad drivers - Missing or incorrect drivers may cause your touchpad to not work properly. You can try downloading and installing the latest driver from our Acer Drivers and Manuals page. You may need to attach an external mouse to complete this process.
    6. Restore Windows- Newer versions of Windows allow you to restore your operating system without losing your personal data. Make sure you select the option to Keep my files.

If you can move your cursor but are having problems with cursor speed, erratic behavior or tapping and clicking:

    1. Adjust touchpad sensitivity - If your cursor is moving too fast or too slow, you can try changing your touchpad sensitivity.
    2. Disable tap to click - Accidentally making contact with the touchpad when typing can cause the cursor to jump around or leave the window.
