Hi, maybe this is the post you read: Acer Travelmate P253 CPU Upgrade — Acer Community
You should be able to upgrade to an i7-2640M CPU.

Ok...

Is your current CPU an i5-3210M? If so you can likely go to an i7-3520M…

OK, the equivalent i7 to your i5 is an i7-3230M. Most any of the Ivy Bridge 35W CPUs should work fine. That means the i7-3520M should work as well.

Thanks for the support, but if I wanted to find an official list of compatible CPUs, does it exist? Maybe there could even be a CPU superior to i7...and I would install the most powerful one that is compatible. The essential requirements are power in watts and Socket type?

No, the closest to an official list would be a list of what Acer shipped in the units, which would leave a lot of options out, since they shipped with a limited subset of the available options. The essential requirements are CPU generation and wattage. Almost all the Ivy Bridge CPUs use the same socket type, but so do ones from other generations, which will usually not work at all.

Actually, would the i7-3540M CPU be fine too? What is the most powerful i7 CPU in the 3 series?
