Acer Travelmate P253 CPU Upgrade

Member Posts: 1 New User
I have an Acer Travelmate P253 with an i3 2328m. I want to upgrade the cpu to an i5 3230m, but is the cpu upgradeable? And how would I configure the bios to use the i5 3230m?

    Hi AriatryTech,

No, you can't upgrade because your HM70 chipset only supports Pentium and Celeron CPUs.

Your TravelMate P253 (you don't say if it's a P253-E, a P253-M or a P253-MG) supports Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs with a 35 TDP. The i3-2328M is a dual core/4 thread model in that line and you should be able to upgrade to as high as an i7-2640M. Less obviously you might be able to upgrade from the 2nd gen to 3rd gen processors, such as your i5-3230M. The TDP is the same between them, as is the base clock. The question is whether the BIOS recognizes both processor lines. The Service Guide says it should, but you'll really only be able to tell by actually trying.

From Intel B960 to Intel Core i5 3210m (3xxx series) WORKS WELL. Bios updated to 2.21
