    At the X:\sources> prompt enter 'cd\ '.  At the X:\> prompt, enter 'dir eventvwr.exe /a /s'  . Jack E/NJ

    OK. Without a log, we must now assume the (1) HDD or  (2) Mainboard HDD interface has had intermittent hardware failures as shown by our DiskPart abnormalities which probably was also responsible for the initial boot corruption.

    To determine if it's (1) or (2), we need to either connect the HDD to another computer's USB port to see if it can be successfully recovered (cost ~$10-20USD for a USB-HDD adapter cable), or simply assume it can't be recovered and replace it with a new HDD or SSD(cost ~$70 for a comparable new HDD).

    Your choice.

    @JackE
    Ok, thank you so much for all your help, we couldn't have managed any of this ourselves.
    In this case we will probibly buy a new HDD and hope that solves the issue.
    Thanks again.

    Good evening jackE, my son is experiencing similar problems as the poster above. He downloaded a copy of windows 11 onto an external hard drive. The next day someone ended up unplugging the hard drive, then once he turned the computer on it gave him the error “no bootable device.” hoping you may be able to help! Looking forward to hearing back from you

    Plug the hard drive back in again.

    Tell him to tap F2 key on startup to enter BIOS menu. See if hard drive is detected in the BIOS INFORMATION tab. If it is, tell him to press F9 to load defaults. Then F10 to save setting and exit BIOS menu.

    We tried f9 it asked if we wanted to convert back to default and we selected yes then hit f10 and we’re still getting the no bootable device error.

    This model has a bootable SSD card, not a bootable hard drive. Why was the card taken out in the first place?

    Which is where he saved the upgrade for windows 11

    Sounds like he was trying to install Win11 from a USB pendrive when someone pulled the plug. He needs to try to re-install from the pendrive. Though I'm not sure the internal 64GB SSD card is big enough handle it. The standard factory installed size for this model is 2 to 4 times as big. Where did he get this laptop?

    He said he saved windows 11 upgrade to the external hard drive and then downloaded it from there. He said that it worked and his desktop changed. Then a day later the external hard drive got unplugged while the computer was off, then his cousin powered the computer on (external hard drive was still unplugged) that’s when he got the error no bootable device. He plugged the external hard drive back in and still received the no bootable device error.

    Doesn't sound right. Or he was following some currently unsupported Windows to Go USB method. Microsoft no longer supports booting a live Windows session from an external drive. Plus it would take an extraordinarily long time to boot even if it did.

    Better start a new thread by clicking on the green ask a question button rather than try to piggyback on this 3+ year old thread. Ask him for a link to exactly how he saved Win11 upgrade to an external USB drive and then downloaded it from there. You can send a PM to me after you start to new thread and we'll go from there.
