My computer has a black screen with 'no bootable device found' . I have gone into bios and followed online tutorials, but I can't get my computer to start up. I don't have a recovery bootable disk.
As it is 15 months old, it's out of warranty,  does anyone know where I can get a boot up usb or a file to use to sort this. Thanks

Heh-heh. Looks like somebody changed this from UEFI mode. Probably in order to boot from an external MBR-partitioned USB stick. A no-no. This must be changed back to UEFI mode or your GPT-partitioned HDD won't boot.  Jack E/NJ

Ok, I changed this to UEFI before and then when I try boot it it comes up.with a picture saying no bootable disk. Once I put this to EUFI, what should I do next?

Looks like somebody tried to install an operating system on the HDD from an MBR partitioned USB in Legacy BIOS. A double no-no. Because the HDD was probably re-partitioned from GPT to MBR in the process. Usually irreversible but we can try to salvage it. But first I have to know if somebody was trying to make a dual boot machine, perhaps with a Linux USB installation stick that was MBR partitioned. Jack E/NJ

I have no idea what you are saying there. We tried to reboot it using another bootable usb from another acer that I have, but that didn't work.

    Will this have damaged it?

Probably not if it didn't boot or present repair or installation options that were acted upon. Let's assume not.

Shut the machine completely off. Then turn it back on again and immediately press and hold the ALT key while tapping the F10 key. A recovery screen should appear as in the video below if the HDD's hidden recovery partition hasn't been damaged or corrupted. You can follow directions to try to re-set or re-fresh the system on the HDD. Re-freshing it will try to save your personal files. Re-set will erase everything and install a factory fresh system.

I have tried that in UEFI mode and legacy but it doesn't take me anywhere. Alt f10 doesn't seem to do anything. I just get the black screen or the picture of the disk with no bootable device

Go back into the BIOS menu. MAIN tab. Make sure D2D option is turned on. This must be done in UEFI BOOT. Do not keep switching to LEGACY BIOS any more --- doing so repeatedly can cause further HDD corruption and other complications. Jack E/NJ

Yes, I have checked and it says D2D is enabled

Let's try the ALT+F10 once more. Remember, immediately upon turning it on, press and hold the ALT key while tapping F10. Don't wait for the ACER logo screen to appear as it'll be too late by then. Jack E/NJ

OK. Looks like your drive has either been corrupted or damaged. You have a choice to make. First choice. You can make a free generic Win10 installation USB thumbdrive using Microsoft's USB creation tool at this link http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery . Because it's generic and not ACER-flavored Win10, you might have to download ACER drivers from this link https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/7210?b=1  for devices that aren't working properly.

Second choice. You can probably purchase the original ACER-flavored Win10 recovery USB based on your machine's serial number id (SNID) and model number (A315-51) by making an emai purchase request at this link https://uk-store.acer.com/contacts . I'd guess the price would be about £ 35-40 if it's available. The ACER-flavored version should have all the correct drivers.

Even if the drive is irreparably damaged, you'd still need one of these Win10 installation USBs to put on a new drive. New drives are usually faster, bigger and a lot cheaper than the old drive you have in there now.
