ok thanks - my problem in reinstalling windows is that I dont have the details or recovery media from that laptop. To boot I was using a boot usb created on my other laptop.

    Really appreciate help.

You can make a valid Win10 installation boot disk by using Microsoft's USB media creation tool on another Windows computer.

Good luck reviving it! Please let us know if you can get it going  on the emmc again or on the other drive if the emmc is a goner. I suppose it's possible malware could've wiped the emmc but left it still usable with a re-installation.

OK so the device originally came with a 32  GB EMMC SMD. Then a 128GB SSD was added as a second (non-bootable) drive. I *assume* the 4GB dive is the USB (I generally use a 16GB for a recovery drive). Hopefully the PC is registered with Microsoft and you have the license key.
Personally, I'd probably go into the BIOS and turn off the EMMC/make it last in the boot list. Then I'd reinstall the OS of choice depending from a bootable ISO depending whether the BIOS is set for UEFI/GPT or Legacy. Once can boot an OS would see if the EMMC was reachable.

Installing now - but Windows wouldnt install on the SSD - so putting it on the emmc - not ideal

There may be ways to force it. But for now itl would be good to determine if the emmc is still recoverable.

Do you even get an error message?

I think you should remove the 2.5" SSD because it is MBR partitioned with data. It must be GPT partitioned to be bootable and this risks losing all the data.

The emmc drive will probably have to be cleaned and GPT repartitioned using diskpart in order to install Win10

I wasn't too worried about the data on the SSD so have GPT partitioned using diskpart. When trying to install on it I get the following error: 0x80070

Just used diskpart as wanted to confirm ssd was indeed now GPT - ran it and it came up with: the request couldnt be performed because of an i/o error

Better post a screenshot of diskpart 'list disk' command to see what we have now. This is what you had earlier. Disk1 emmc was GPT . partitioned. Disk0 128GB SSD was MBR partitioned. Also, if you're still using the same USB stick, it's too small for Win10 installation. It should be at least 8GB preferrably 16GB

Right...have Windows running on emmc - having trouble getting it to see SSD. Appeared in Device Manager but not in Explorer. So uninstalled and it reinstalled but now as an unknown device. Still cant be seen. Losing the will..

Press Win+R. Enter 'diskmgmt.msc'. Post screenshot of result.
