Can anyone with the issue check something. When you've got confirmed crackling, stop you audio and put your ear to the back of the laptop where the USB C ports are, opposite the front right crackling speaker. I noticed I can hear static.
I can hear a quiet hum, not static, when the right speaker is crackling.

I'm sorry to Acer if this is a software issue. I tried to ask support if there was a known fix but just kept getting generic responses about clear cache, power wash etc.

I too think this is software related. No longer think it's a heat, hardware-related problem

Good catch Martin, hopefully Google will deal with it soon. Especially since it doesn't seem to be model related, since so many manufacturers are affected.

Same problem here, on a SPIN 713-3W French version (azerty keyboard), bought on the French official store. Acer

replaced my computer on week later for the same model: same problem on the new one.

Indeed, it seems that the problem was not present on the v96 but is present on the v97 and v98 version.

I feel like updating apps on the playstore increases the problem (it's just an impression).

The problem also seems to happen more often than when you disconnect the bluetooth, or after lock session.

    Reboot solve problem temporary...

Yep, getting the static - very quiet and not constant, but it's there.

Done - surprising to see other manufacturers and models listed.

Also Neil the shop is wrong to say that to you.
emailed the shop (Currys PC World) and they says that they will deal with retpairs of Acer laptops (Windows) and desktops, but for Chromebooks I must deal with Acer directly.

Regardless of the speaker issue, which is probably a software fix, I will speak with Acer to get it in for the USB port not working.

Looks like a fix could be in the way. From the Google issue tracker.

A possible cause has been identified and the fix will be pushed out to M98 next spin after more verification. Thanks a lot for the patience.

People of Earth (and this chat room)  :)PERFORM a HARD RESET!

Like all of you, my 713 right-side speaker problem has caused me nothing but misery. In Sept. 2021, I bought my 713 from Best Buy. Last month, I returned it when my right-side speaker issue started (crackling, whooshing, etc.). Best Buy sent it back to Acer, where Acer replaced the speaker.

Without a computer, I bought a new one (which, thankfully, I was able to return) driving thru a GD blizzard 18 miles to a different Best Buy to pick it up!

When I retrieved my 713 from Best Buy last night, NOTHING had changed. The speaker was still dysfunctional. Last night, the kid at Best Buy told me about their unofficial lemon policy. If something else happens to my 713, I can return it for a refund.

Thus, I called Acer tech support today to inform them how poor their products are and tell them I planned to return my computer to Best Buy to get my money back. After 20 mins of haranguing the Acer tech support specialist, he said he hadn't heard of this problem & asked me to perform a hard reset:

    1. Power off the computer using the right-side, manual, power button.
    2. Simultaneously, push the F2 (or F3) key (the one w/ the circular arrow) AND the power button to power it back on.

BANG! Problem solved. Can't believe how many people this issue affects. Moreover, I can't believe Acer Tech Support knew NOTHING about this problem! (I apologized for haranguing him!) Short answer: performing a HARD RESET will resolve many Chromebook issues. Hope this helps!!!

    Oo ?

Good news ! But can you update those software on playstore and feed back ? :

    - Android System WebView

    - Contacts

    - Accessibility Android Tools

    - Speech Services by Google

     >> Sleep >> close screen >> wait 1 houre plugged to AC >> open and unlock with finger print.

    Nothing after that ? (hope...)

This is the only way to reproduce bug 90% time on mine.

I have the exact same issues. There is a temporary fix for this, although YMV. If I go into developer terminal (ctrl-alt-refresh), login as root and bring up TAP look for the ID of the CRAS service and then SUDO kill (whatever that id is) it will make the crackling go away temporarily. The audio service also doesn't come back up sometimes, so it's hit and miss, but when it does it resolves the crackling.

I contacted support and they want me to ship it in. This is the second 713 3W I've had and the same issue. I love this device. Unfortunately, if I send it into support, I have the feeling it will not be fixed and I will have passed the return window with Best Buy. My only option is to return this and go with another mfg. Sorry Acer. I tried many Chromebooks and this is by far my favorite at the moment. Best display, keyboard and aspect ratio. But I just can't chance not being able to return it for the amount of money it costs. Especially since this appears to be an inherent issue with this particular model. Maybe next time.

I've got the latest update, crackling noise still happening I'm afraid.
I've filed a system feedback support as requested by Google.

On another note, the USB C port that wasn't working is working fine since the update - it charges, and accepts USB head phones. Strange...

Sorry to hear that Neil, from the limited testing I did this morning I couldn't get a crackle.

I'll caveat that by saying I've done a few powerwashes recently whilst playing with ADB.

Will report back if I get a crackle.
