Predator 300 Why is my system temperature so hot?

Hello,

i currently experience weird behaviour of my Helios Predator 300.

The system temperature seems to run way to high in comparison to the GPU and CPU.

Here is a screenshot i did after quitting a game and the System temperature on the right was even higher at 101°C.
What could be the cause of this and whats a possible fix?

    Hi @Acer-Erick

i checked out both links but they really didnt provide much answer.

I just cleaned my fans 3 days ago and everything was working fine till yesterday. Now my System temperature is always waaaaay too high and i cant even play some of my games because the laptop is gonna overheat so much. Temps of CPU and GPU seem alright but the system temperature is since yesterday through the roof even when basically idle.

I already adjusted the CPU power to just 95% but its still way too hot and its never been like this before yesterday

@Herminello1 the system temperature is for the PCH Chipset. If you use plug many USB devices, ethernet cable, or have another SSD/HDD, that chipset heats up quickly because of no heatsink. You can check this post for modding a heatsink for that chipset: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/595104/high-fan-speeds-in-nitro-5-an515-54-55e9-after-nvme-install

@AnhEZ28 thank you for your answer, unfortunatly none of the mentioned causes apply to my laptop. I just got one mouse plugged in and i just have the one SSD that is already built in. Last 2 years i havent had one issue with my PCH temperature but suddenly it is way too high.
When the PC is idle the temperature is at 70-85°C and even gets higher when i try to play a game like RDR2 (not even with high graphics setting) and then the laptop shuts off bc it got too hot.

I really dont know what the cause of this could be as it came very suddenly. Im going to open the laptop later to see if there might be some dust or something at the area of the PCH chipset but i really doubt that as i have just cleaned my fans 2 or 3 days ago and i would have noticed, i think.

I have read other threads and some point out that it could be a BIOS problem. I am currently using BIOS version 1.06 but i dont know if updating the BIOS would really do something, other than more potential harm.

I also for some reason cant boot my Ubuntu anymore

@Herminello1 updating the BIOS should not do any harm if you do it correctly. It might fix some minor issues or changing default fan speed.

    @AnhEZ28

Alright, i just have one other issue that makes me worry about updating the BIOS but maybe you know if it will impact a BIOS update.

When i shutdown my Windows, the power of the laptop does not turn off, i have to do it manually by pressing the power button, i dont even know why this happens. So i worry that during the BIOS update the laptop going to shutdown and restart on its own and that it could do harm if i turn the power off.

So im afraid bc of that issue, there could be potential harm.

A very basic thing to check and apologies if you're already doing this, but are you undervolting using Throttlestop or a similar program? Does wonders for temperatures.

@Herminello1 I would recommend you reset the BIOS setting first. If that doesn't solve the not shutting down issue, then just go ahead updating the BIOS. Just make sure that the laptop is plugged in and do not shutdown when the updating is in progress.

    Hi @Herminello1,

Can you able to adjust the fan speed in the predator sense app.

@Easwar yes i can set them to the max

@TheIrishNinjas i dont use any programs like the Throttlestop but i set the CPU max settings to only 95% but i will check out that program

I had the same issue and was able to fixe it with very good results. I bought a pack of Alphacool GPU/RAM heatsinks, cutted off the heatsink blades and this fitted perfect between the PCH chipset and the heatpipes of the laptop, I used Grizzly Kryonaut between the chip and the heatsink and put some on the top to fill the gap between the heatpipe and the heatsink. I also drilled some holes on the bottom cover of the laptop, where the pseudo-heatsinks for the SSD and some other chip are, to provide some air to help cooling them down, using a laptop cooling pad. My system temperature dropped from 70/80 something to around 36, ON IDLE. Didn’t try to game on it yet, but I’d bet is much better.
P.S. The CPU temp increased to between 45 and 50 but it drops down after a minute, I guess this is not an huge deal…

    Solution :

    1. Disable Ethernet Controller from Device Manager
    2. Disable Fast Startup from Registry (or restart computer instead of Shutdown)

System Temperature will drop 45 degree celcius when it is idle..

The Extreme overclock is worse than turbo mode that one i know u shuld use turbo mode and full speed of fans cus its laptop otherway all the temps will be like yours in idle its way to high in idle .
