I think you should spend $20 on a new video cable. Either it works or it means the motherboard is bad. Then you can decide what do to next. Jack E/NJ

I'll come back in about 40 days...

Do you think I should open the display frame and check the cable part number?

I thought you ordered it from Aliexpress already? The part number is "50.PMV02.001" or "DC02000ZY10". Jack E/NJ

Yes, I have already ordered but I fear it has not the same connector for the camera, while the big LVDS seems ok.  If you look at https://it.aliexpress.com/item/4000167836188.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.57ad5af4r5HSSX
I see these differences: mine has no ferrite and has a black plastic connector, while in the image of AliExpress it seems to be FFC.

The images may not depict exactly what you'll get. You must order by part number or the laptop model, not by what its image looks like. This cable is also used in other laptops some of which have higher resolution cameras that benefit from a ferrite cores.  Do not worry too much. Jack E/NJ

    Hello,
finally the cable has arrived, but the cable is exactly the same as the picture. The small connector is smaller than mine; I can't mount!

    Which small connector doesn't fit? A, B or C? Jack E/NJ

That's the videocam cable. There is only one LCD with videocam cable listed for the Aspire 5942G. The videocam connector is one standard size for this model? How is your B connector different?  Please post a picture of your old cable alongside the new cable so we can see this difference. Have you removed any tape from the old connector that may make it look bigger than the new connector? Jack E/NJ

    Hello,
I have mounted the new cable leaving B disconnected.
The problem remains the same as before: PC turns on and off continuously by itself, while I can control the keyboard backlight.
If I remove both ram modules it stays on as before and nothing is shown on the external monitor via HDMI.
I post some photos to see the difference between the two B connectors.
The code in the original cable is:
    NCQD1_LCD CABLE
    DC02000ZY10 REV 1.0
    HIGH-TEK (KC33)
while the new cable is all the same but (SC1) instead of (KC33).
As you can see, the B connector in the new cable is smaller than the original.
Let me know what you think, thank you

When I first read the date of the initial post I thought this was another thread highjacking but you're still having the same problem @Paolo6, so I read through the whole thing.
    • It's not odd that the machine doesn't beep when there's no RAM installed in the system. It used to be a telltale sign that there was a problem in the motherboard or within the CPU itself, but I've seen machines that just show a black screen when there's no RAM and that's it.
    • For some reason... even with the laptop wide open I don't think you should be seeing those artifacts when connected via HDMI, I'd also try to assess if it's something related to the video hardware first before trying something else.
I didn't see any pictures of the system firmware config (BIOS) while connected through HDMI, are you able to access and see it?

The idea would be to use another machine to create a bootable USB stick with a Linux system, different OS, different architecture, different drivers. If you were able to boot and see that desktop just fine it'd have something to do with the Windows installation you have. Is the HD5650 the only graphics card the system has? I don't expect the processor to have another one, at the time you either had integrated graphics or dedicated ones. If possible let us know too.

Anyway, we'd need to access the system BIOS, or at least the boot menu to choose a different boot option (and if there were any USB 3.0 in there, it may not be possible to boot off of them, you'd need to use any of the 2.0). As for Linux distributions, any would do, for example I tried Mint in another system the other day for another troubleshooting. Let us know if you'd be open to try this if you need assistance to create a bootable USB stick.

Also, I think your laptop has VGA output as well, did you check if there were artifacts over VGA? It may be harder to find a suitable screen or TV with VGA input these days, but being analog in nature vs. digital in HDMI things could be different and you could have video out sooner in the boot up process.

He's checked both HDMI & VGA. There's a graphic adapter issue and I suspect it's the integrated.
This model came with PGA and BGA cpus. It's important to know which one you have. Do you have an i3, i5 or i7 cpu? Jack E/NJ
