My aspire laptop is running slower then usual. I notice it because the menus show slower and typing the later has got slower. Loading windows has turned slower then usual.

The operating system is running on an SSD and the laptop has 8 gb of ram.
I have disabled a lot of start up programs and disabled a lot of services. My system is running at 47% memory, cpu 4% and GPU 7%, but it feels very slow especially as I am typing right now and when I open programs which did not take that long to open.
A few days back I was in a bath tab and the head shower starting splashing upwards and I had placed my computer on a stand and the water went through the holes of the stand and it touched the bottom of the computer. I am not sure if any water when through the back case of the computer and if it has touched any parts of the computer. I shut down the computer and restarted it again. Computer does not report any issues, but I think since then the computer started running slower then usual.

Could this incident have caused this slowness? Thank you for your help.

I doubt it. Open ControlPanel. Search 'button'. Click 'change what the power buttons do' in the left pane. Click 'changes settings that are currently unavailable'. Scroll down and make sure box for fast startup is enabled. Jack E/NJ

Were any automatic restore points created 'a few days back'? Jack E/NJ

I am not sure there were any updates prior to it. I do the updates manually. I see that the cpu speed has been stuck to 0.39 GHz and it remains all the time like that. In the event viewer I found the following log entry: The speed of processor 7 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report.

I have updated the BIOS with the latest firmware. I am updating the drivers at the moment. I will see what will happen after the drivers have been updated.

Open Control Panel. Search 'restore point'. Click 'create a restore point' in the left pane. Click 'system restore' button. Click 'next' . Do you see any automatic restore points that were made around the time the CPU got stuck? If not, check that your Control Panel power plan is either set to Balanced or HighPerformance mode, not PowerSaver.

I see there is one restore point which was made yesterday around 11pm. The type is Critical update. Power plan is set to balanced.

On the restore point screen, do you an unchecked box  'show more restore points'? Jack E/NJ

No, there are no other restore points. I am installing an update at the moment. I hope this will resolve this issue.

    Edit:
I have installed ThrottleStop to help me with the speed. Now it is showing 1.8 GHz. Otherwise it will take centuries to install the update.

I am not sure about the date, but it is less then six months that I have this laptop. What I noticed when I open the laptop for the first time is that they, the shop, had upgraded the windows from 8.1 to windows 10.

Aye!!! What do you mean by Win8.1? The A515-52G was supposed to have factory-installed Win10! Where did you buy this machine? Did it have Win8.1 or Win10 or Linux any operating system installed at all when you bought it? Jack E/NJ

What does this Windows.Old do here in c:\?
When I bought it had windows 10, but I remember that I saw Windows.Old and if I am not wrong that holds normally a previous version. I called Media Markt here in Belgium and they said that I need to contact some other guy who can help me and they put me on hold and so on, so I dropped the call. Windows.Old is still present in C: drive.

Hi Jack, I will check the link in a second, but fist I wanted to share with you this. Yesterday afternoon, the battery of my computer was very low, so I put my computer to sleep by pressing the power button. When I woke it up and logged in again the speed of my computer went up. It started functioning just fine. However, this morning it has stuck back again to 0.39 GHz. I tried to put it back to sleep again but this time the trick is not working. Any idea what is going on?
First I thought it might be a fan problem but my computer is cool and fans are not making any noise or overheating that it needs to go to 0.39 GHz.
