Yes you can add an M.2 SATA SSD, but you're even better off when adding an NVMe SSD drive. It can be done by adding an adapter card that can both handle M.2 SATA SSD or M.2 NVMe SSD drives. You will have to abandon your video card in slot #23 and add the adapter card there. Then you will have to rely on the built in…

If your computer has an Intel SoC then there is an Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool for it. You have to download and install it. There is also an Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (Intel® DSA). The Intel® Driver & Support Assistant keeps your system up-to-date by providing tailored support and hassle-free updates for most…

Probably your Win 7 key is stored in your Bios. You might try upgrading to Win 10. Have a look here at how I did it. Or have a look here for the old installation media.

@Hippie Uhm, forgive me if I'm wrong, but the Acer Aspire XC-705 is running the integrated Intel® UHD Graphics. That is the video card that is integrated into the i7 SoC. It uses a part of shared memory. How much graphics memory does Windows flight Simulator want? Normally you should be able to allocate as much as half the…

@Crofty I have identified a way around the TPM module requirement. If your machine has enough processing power and memory (an i5 and 8 GB should suffice) then you could run Win 11 within a virtual machine for which there are no TPM requirements. Have a look here:

Dear @billsey Your help is much appreciated. You do good things in the community. I bought the best spec'ed rig at the time. AMD processors were outperforming Intel big time on almost all planes at that moment. I was under the assumption that I would be out of the dog house when it comes to driver and security support. But…

Is there a beeping pattern when you turn on the computer (before boot)? My Veriton X4610G makes these beeping sounds: . Does anybody know what these beeps mean? The computer starts without a problem after the beeps have sounded. The instability issue seem to come and go with winter (I've re-seated all memory dimms).

Dear @JackE Have you been hired by ACER for Public Relations?
-
Dear Billsey, Your answer is noted, but Acer redirect people to the community forums, when their products are out of support (after two years).
-
Dear @oliv2, I have a similar experience with Acer support, but never got as clear an answer as you did. Back in May - Juli 2022 I wrote multiple times to Acer support stating the open security vulnerabilities. I explained to them elaborately that: In short summary this means that it allows attackers to run arbitrary code…

I found the problem! Sound Server PipeWire and Sound Server PulseAudio interfere with each other. If they are both running (verify with command: $ inxi -Aa) then you can disable PipeWire with command: $ systemctl --user mask --now pipewire.socket && systemctl --user stop pipewire.service Then stereo recording works (only…

I did a deep dive on the audio hardware that is contained in the Acer SF314-43 from a Linux perspective. I found the following devices (source: Hardware for Linux): BUS ID / Class Vendor Device Type Driver PCI 1002:1637:1025:1537 » / 04-03 Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Renoir Radeon High Definition Audio…

@xat Thank you for your in-depth answer. I tested my configuration in order to compare it to yours. It looks like my rig has different hardware than yours. My rig is equipped with an [AMD/ATI] Renoir Radeon High Definition Audio Controller [1002:1637]. I'm running with kernel version 5.15.0-102-generic. I have a different…

I already have devised a possible update path after W10 becomes unsupported: Install Linux. XUbuntu Long Term Support version, which will get you 5 years of (security) support. Optionally activate a free for personal use Ubuntu Pro subscription, which will extend (security) support to 10 years. Run W11 in a container…
-
@Puraw I'm happy for you that you like W11. I wish you all the best with your machines. But the time will come that W11 becomes unsupported. Your processors will be pushed off the requirements list and effectively your 3 laptops become unsupported. Your 2019 laptop is well on its way already. Because 2 years after release…

Fastboot was turned off when Ubuntu was installed. I'm running plain XUbuntu. I'm not going to run Cinnamon. (see my previous post)

I have fast boot off by default. So all my previous tests have already been without a hybernated Windows 10 partition.

Ad (1) No the mic does not work under Linux without anything else except the charger plugged in. Ad (2) Yes I tries the new BIOS firmware to try to fix the Linux mic problem. It made no difference. (I do intent to keep the BIOS update installed because it also fixes AGESA PI vulnerabilities.)
-
Ad. 1) The internal mic only works under Windows 10. Ad. 2) I stalled the latest official BIOS firmware from the Acer site.

Sorry for late response, I've fallen rather ill. Here's the info: (I'm kind of an seasoned Unix user and am running Xubuntu currently. So you don't need to speak in noob lingua.)
