Hi, thanks for the link egydiocoelho . I agree Jack. The previous V. 1.05 was dropped for causing problems. I don't want to do the work of recovering my Switch Alpha for an issue that is very hard to understand how it affects me. Btw, I am running 1.04 with no issues. Thanks for the comments. Mike.

Hi Jack, I noticed on that page that the SA5-271 is listed as needing a Intel Management Engine (ME) firmware upgrade which beyond "my building computers since 1990" level of understanding. What is ME? I found that V.1.06 was released to fix Spectre. < https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/53104/related/1 >…

Hi Jack, my laptop is working fine but I was wondering if the update fixed the intel processor security issues. I was asking to see if there were any issues with the update and whether anyone knew what it "fixed." I won't update unless there's a good reason to. If it ain't broke why fix it! Just my curiosity at work. Do…

Hi you can check your CPU temperature with Core Temp 1.12.1 if you concerned. See https://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

Thanks for the info! I shall wait for the updated BIOS. Cheers, Canadaloon

Thanks for the great description GiZerod ! I could picture it in my mind's eye while I was reading it. I would be interested to hear if you notice any speed differences when you put the 500 GB Samsung 850 in. It's always hard to know if benchmarks translate into real life performance improvements. Appreciate all of your…

Boy do I feel stupid! I rebooted my computer and the Acer.com IE home page link was gone. I should have tried the oldest fix in the book before posting! Sorry to waste people's time. I just hate it when that happens and after mucking around with it thought I'd ask for help. Have a super weekend, Cheers, Canadaloon

Hi, I did some checking up on the SSDs for the Switch Alpha 12. So I compared the installed Kingston one with the 2 Samsung models at < https://www.notebookcheck.net/Laptop-harddisks-HDD-SSD-benchmarks.22089.0.html >. I knew that the Samsung 960 EVO m.2 drive was fast but WOW! The 850 Evo 500GB is faster than the Kingston…

Hi GiZerod , Thanks so much for working out how to open the SA12. So sad that your 500GB Samsung 960 EVO m.2 drive didn't work out. I have a 256GB Kingston in mine as well and I was planning to upgrade to the same SSD as you by pure coincidence! I guess we'll have to make do with a 500GB Samsung 850 EVO :-( It seems to…

Hi again, I just found this in 'Settings' Just thought I would see if that helps. I typed 'rotate' in the 'find a setting' box.

Hi, my Device Manager shows 2 identical drivers for the two 'HID sensor collection v2.' One is labeled 'location 0' and the other 'location 1.' The 'Driver Details' are exactly the same for both of them. Below are screen captures of them for you to see. I hope this information helps. Cheers, Canadaloon.

Hi Mamnoon_Sami, No problem at all using it while it's charging. Or, for that matter, using it while it's fully charged and plugged in! So, don't worry about it :-) There are lots of opinions on best laptop battery care practices. The manual has some suggestions and the web has numerous opinions on it. I'll let you do your…

The j5create JCA374 USB Type-C Multi-Adapter HDMI/Ethernet/USB 3.0 HUB/PD 2.0 works great on my Switch Alpha One 12. See http://j5create.com/our-products/usb-hub/jca374.html . It’s very compact. I bought mine on sale at Staples. Everything works well but I have not used the USB-C power delivery yet. I like to use the…

Hi Flemink, I agree with brummyfan2 that your temperature of 60 – 63 degrees Celsius seems normal when under heavy load. I did some looking into to it on the weekend and here's what I found. The Intel website ( https://ark.intel.com/products/88193/Intel-Core-i5-6200U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-2_80-GHz ) states that the…

Hi, The Aspire Switch 12 is a different model than the Aspire Switch Alpha 12 (SA5-271 see http://acer.com/ac/en/US/content/series/switchalpha12 ) There is no mention of Gorilla Glass on the SA5-271 on the Acer website. I strongly suspect that Acer would tell me if the Aspire Switch Alpha 12 had Gorilla Glass and not tell…
-
Hi, I just finished chatting with Acer and the SA5-271 does “not have Gorilla Glass on the screen.” I had been unable to find that information anywhere on the Acer website or in reviews so I contacted Acer. I am disappointed and will be considering getting a screen protector. I have had mine since July and the screen is…

Ah, I found it. It's not a replacement for the Aspire Switch Alpha 12. Also there is no 'Alpha' in it's name. The Acer Aspire Switch 12 S is an older 'Intel Core M' processor 5 in 1 so it has a much less powerful processor. See https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/series/aspireswitch12 for more info.…

Hi,I checked my Device Manager and couldn't find a "PCI-to-PCI Bridge" in there. Below are my 'System Devices' : See https://www.acer.com/ac/en/SG/content/support-product/6806?b=1#_ga=1.152722685.515531343.1485383218 for the SA5-271 support page with the specific drivers, BIOS, etc. I would not use recommend using drivers…
