Windows 10 is rebooting just about every night (not due to Windows Update).

Checkng the Event Viewer shows hundreads of these errors before it reboots.

I checked the Vendor & Device ID.  It is an Intel PCI Express device.

I tried updating to the latest driver from the Intel site (ver 10.1.1.13) but these warnings are still being generated.  It reduced to about 6 seconds now vs the 1 sec events...

Thanks guys, well, I switched to all the versions for the driver and I gave up.

I backed up the data to a NAS, luckliy the drive is pretty new and small.

    I reinstalled Windows 10.

Solution was found.  This fresh install did not have any issues.  I still deleted all the bloatware  from Acer.

The Event Viewer is now clear of errors.  :-)

Well, I think I may had solved it!!!   I have not recieved any more warnings in the past 20 mins!!!!!

It is a driver issue on the PCI Express....   I removed the Intel version and switched to the generic Microsoft version called "PCI-to-PCI Bridge".

Note: I also diasabled Windows auto update - just incase the driver gets updated again automatically.

Update: nope...   the errors are still there sadly.  It just takes longer to show up....  i have to say, this driver support from Acer needs some work.

Hi,I checked my Device Manager and couldn't find a "PCI-to-PCI Bridge" in there. Below are my 'System Devices' :

    system_devices_switch_alpha_12.JPG

See https://www.acer.com/ac/en/SG/content/support-product/6806?b=1#_ga=1.152722685.515531343.1485383218 for the SA5-271 support page with the specific drivers, BIOS, etc.

I would not use recommend using drivers from vendors sites. As you know, manufacturers do their own tweaking. Acer Care Center comes with an update tool and should be on your computer. This may help you get the right driver. I would try uninstalling the "PCI-to-PCI Bridge" driver and see what happens.

Let me know how I can help.I can get screen shots or infomation on drivers on my SA5-271 or . . .  whatever.

Good luck with getting it working smoothly again.

    Cheers

    Love my Switch Alpha 12!

Well, I jumped the gun.  The issue came back within a week after my last post where I reinstalled Windows.  The WHEA errors continued.  This error was bugging the heck out of me.

Seached the web and followed some of the suggestions for other types of computers and it seems to be very common.  Almost in all cases, it was NOT the PCI driver itself, seems to be the other drivers that is the issue. So need to determine what is causing the errors as the report does not indicate what was the actual cause of the error.

    1) Disabled Bluetooth driver first. The errors still showed up.   Bluetooth drivers were common for the other brands of PC runing Windows.

    2) Disabled Wifi driver.  The error stopped!!!  Did not show any for over two hours.

    3) Re-enabled Bluetooth. No errors!!!!

    4) Downloaded the Wifi driver from Acer website.  Installed that version as Windows Update had a newer one.

    5) Once installed the Acer website version, reboot, renabled it.  The error started again!

    6) Updated the Wifi driver again and picked the older one that is recommended by the driver update

    7) Rebooted, checked Event Viewer.  No more WHEA errors!

    8) To prevent Windows Update updating my driver, had to go a few more steps.

This site was pretty good reference.  I set the group policy by adding the VID/PID of the wifi device

    http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/take-back-control-driver-updates-windows-10/

    9) Its been over 12 hours and now my Switch 12 is behaving 'normal'.  No more WHEA being logged!

I definitely do not want to reinstall Windows 10 again.

I really do not know why Windows was having issues with the Wifi driver...  not a true Windows 10 Driver?? and right now, I dont care as I dont want to think about it anymore

If you guys have similar WHEA event logs, just start the disabling of each driver till the WHEA events stops..  you will eventually find the root driver issue.

If the issue comes back, I'll update again.  Hopefully, this is my last entry.  :-)
