That is disappointing, but thank you anyway. Is there maybe another way to get to the currently unavailable settings in the Nvidia control panel?

If Ubuntu and Linux Mint can be installed without problems, I'd say that the issue here isn't your laptop but Deepin OS. Have you tried asking on the Deepin OS forums?

Installing Linux is no problem at all. I'm running Manjaro on my PH317-52, and everything works perfectly. Acer apps are largely pointless except for PredatorSense, and even then only if you want to manually adjust fan speeds. However, I've noticed that Linux -- or at least Manjaro -- is more aggressive than Windows and…

Honestly, your temperatures are actually pretty good. I don't see any reason to repaste (though it won't hurt if you know what you're doing), although while is always a good idea. As for fan settings, I wouldn't game on auto unless I'm playing something that has extremely low requirements where the laptop works only…

While I completely agree with you that it sucks if the system gets bricked because the OS decides to update things that don't need to be updated and, more importantly, shouldn't be treated like regular OS updates, the data loss is always on the user. Three words: backups, backups, backups. It may be unpopular to say this…

Then why could another user use a 512 GB SSD in his 113-31? Link: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/570566/acer-swift-1-compatible-m-2-2280-ssds

I don't want to badmouth Asus, but I wouldn't have my Predator now if the Asus I had bought before it hadn't been broken.

You won't necessarily get better performance with a newer driver, but it might still be a good idea to update depending on how old the current version is. On the other hand, there's no reason to update if everything works fine.

Do you have V-sync enabled in Rainbow 6 Siege? Because if you don't, the game will run on the CPU as fast as possible. Read here: https://rainbow6.ubisoft.com/siege/en-us/news/152-324640-16/100-cpu-usage From that website: Anyway, with the temperatures on both the CPU and GPU remaining that low, you're absolutely 100%…

Time ran out when editing my above post, so sorry for posting twice. Basically there are a few reasons for this: Firstly, if the fans were to ramp up every time the CPU or GPU gets a bit hotter, they would constantly spin up and down. This causes much higher wear on the fans' bearings than when they're spinning at a…

That's because your new laptop isn't exactly brand new. Most consumer electronics, including laptops, aren't built on demand but in bulk and shipped off to some warehouse. From there the manufacturer ships them off to some regional distributer where they also sit in another warehouse for some time before they get shipped…

If you bought it just this week, return it and have it replaced. This appears to me to be more than just a BIOS/EFI or software issue.

You also have a "custom" setting in PredatorSense, which is perfect for finding balance between better cooling and not being deafeningly loud. Try settings of 3,500 to 5,000 RPM depending on the game and how loud you can bear. This is basically setting the minimum RPMs, meaning that the fans will not spin down below that…

Unless there's something that bothers you about your current Helios 300, I don't think that the new model is worth it. The only reason I can think of that justifies replacing your current model with the new one is if it's suffering from high temperatures. Thermals are better at the new model because Acer finally got rid of…

What are the CPU and GPU temperatures while the laptop is being idle? Can it be that the thermal paste needs to be replaced and/or the laptop cleaned?
-
Yes, but I don't want them to turn off. Some games and other applications I use will not use a lot of CPU most of the time, but every now and then there will be short bursts. This results in the temperature spiking up to well over 90 C. The hottest spike I had yesterday was 97 C, and there were a few that were around 95…

Fans just turned off. Had them set to run at about 3700 RPM.

PredatorSense is still incorrectly showing the GPU as being idle. As for the fans turning off when set to a custom speed, I'm currently testing that. Need to let the laptop idle for a bit, though.

It won't start. The logo animation just keeps looping. Also, what Predator model is that version from? Edit: Never mind, got it working. Looks exactly like my version.

Well, that's good to hear. To be honest, I think it'll be rather good cooling-wise. The biggest problem with bad cooling is the trend to make gaming laptops thinner and lighter, which ultimately compromises cooling. But the new Helios 300 is still quite the tank (which I like), so that's a problem Acer already avoided.
