I have not run Windows 10 on the machine. I ordered it new with Windows 11. Based on what I have learned, I think the vendor was updating machines.

@JackE I downloaded and used the minitool. It was interesting to look at it side by side with Windows Update. Both showed a couple of somewhat standard updates - security and general Windows 11 updates - but only the minitool showed that the update was also going to do a third change - downgrading the display driver.…

My Swift 3 running Windows 11 keeps re-installing an Iris Xe driver from July 2020 that has a problem with screen flickering.

Just captured immediately after freeze (can switch to other programs). I can see when it froze (spike in 3D). It's ow using 1G of RAM.

It is set at 3.9G, so that isn't it. I read lots of reviews on the laptop, but it is possible they were with other GPUs. I feel sick about it after doing more research. OK, I think it is the ACC (Acer) service replacing the new driver with the old one. I stopped it and now I seem to be keeping the May 2022 driver. But still locking video.

I am only trying games that have minimums well below the Swift's specs. Review indicated it works with more recent/demanding games with settings lowered. It's hanging on SteamWorld Dig 2. It runs on pretty ancient hardware.

Maybe the driver will help. Hard to say since something keeps reverting it back to the one from July of 2020. I have installed the latest, check device manager and it is a recent one from just a few days ago and the at some point it reverts back. Going to try updating again and see if I can figure out what is doing it.

poking around further, it appears the Intel software update utility doesn't work properly. It claimed to update it and showed a new version in teh report on the system. But device manager still showed the old one from Acer. I downloaded and installed manually instead of using the Intel updater and now Ihave the new one,…
