Why no sound at startup with earphones plugged in?

Hi,
I have the PH 17.3 model. Win10 has been updated to latest version.
I have the PH 17.3 model. Win10 has been updated to latest version.
If I plug my earphones in when laptop is off, when I power up, I get no sound at all.
If I startup Win10 then plug in, it asks if this is a headset then there is sound.
Why can’t I start Win10 with earphones plugged un first? Really odd.
