  • My KBs battery failed. I opened mine up and used the info printed on it to track down the chinese supplier they can be ordered in bulk from. I wasn't able to successfully figure out the site to order them. But in the event you need a new battery for it that could be an option.

  • I ended up with a big problem that required using the reset recovery option. Which reinstalls windows but keep your personal files. As a result of the reset both issues I described in starting this thread are fixed. So for anyone having these issues if all else comes up empty try a reset.

I think several of the ones I linked are battery powered. Assuming battery power makes a difference with one exactly like the one you linked in a previous…
  • My W700P came with one that looks similar to the one linked. Its a soft rubber like disc on the end. I tried it several times since I bought the W700P (2-3 years ago). But it fails to work acceptably in drag and drop scenarios and handwritting. And I assume any other task involving dragging it on the screen would also…
  • The reason I would get one is for better accuracy than my finger tip can achieve. The free ones I have don't really achieve that. Ideally one that is like a pen like the old palm days before smartphones would about as precise as I could ever imagine needing. Plus it would allow me to use the writing input option of the…
  • I used macrium reflect to image my 160GB SSD in my w700p before proceeding with the upgrade in case anything went wrong. I suposed not very relevant but I thought I'd mention that. I notice on my system post upgrade there is a hidden $Windows.~WS folder that uses almost 6GB on mine. I have no idea what it is. But I think…
  • There must be some sort of internal issue with that section of the site. I managed to get some of the files downloaded but now it keeps giving that message again. It will load the initial win8 page but not the 8.1 stuff that I need to download. As there are newer versions than there were listed for 8. I'll keep trying but…
  • The W700P comes with 120GB SSD. I'm trying to not let my frustration turn to anger and so hopefully the following doesn't come off as that as in my head it doesn't sound like that. I'm not going to buy a disc from acer because the recovery no longer works right for something I paid $1,000 for. This is why historically…
  • GRRRR now I'm running into another problem. When I choose recover or reset (thought I'd give the first a shot before factory reset) it halts at insert my recovery. The recovery is a hidden partition on the machine as setup by acer so it is for all practical purposes already inserted. So why the heck is it not seeing it and…
  • I've tried a few linux distro but they have all been pretty unfriendly in the ease of usability category. To date ubuntu has been the best one I have tried. I'm not sure how the others have progressed since I have used them but I recall such nightmares as go to install an app I want to have and a dependency not be there,…
  • I'm getting the rapid impression that linux is not user friendly at all. I would have thought that after as much time as it's been around since I have first attempted to mess around with it (years at least) it would be as simple and straight forward as using windows to perform the same tasks. I posted on an ubuntu forum to…
  • Well I solved the USB port problem. Apparently the dock that the W700P comes with must have the power cable connected to it. I assumed that it drew it's power from the USB port of the tablet. It is the first time I have used the dock since I bought it. But anways so I should have no issue with installing ubuntu should that…
  • All my attempts at using methods that allow me to verify the integrity of the files once they are on my desktop PC have failed. MD5 won't run all files are either skipped or access denied. Same with attempting to archive zip lots of files being skipped. So I decided to give getting ubuntu booted from USB again. I managed…
  • Ah yes sorry about that it was late and I wasn't thinking about the model. It is a W700P.
  • Ok i have managed to add my network drive as the destination for the backup however clicking on system image backup says "Running in safe mode is not supported". Attempting tapping on the turn on button also says "This service cannot be started in safe mode". Putting me back to square one since according to microsoft this…
  • I've been pretty busy and not had any time to devote to solving this problem. However I have news to which I think will allow me to do a backup so that I can at least retain my personal files and do a restore to factory state of it (assuming that will work since the other form of system restore without losing personal…
  • Unfortunately no parameter is given on the BSOD and because I can't get into windows I can't see if there is one in the logs. After the successful installing of the update I was running for days with no issue at all so I'm highly doubtful of any hardware failing or had failed. I can only speculate at this time the update…
  • Ah yep with your description of those hotkey combos it definately is a stuck windows key that it the cause of my occational wonky power and volume buttons. I wonder if a loose wifi lead would explain my periodic wifi connection loss issues that require a reboot to resolve or if that is a different issue (note that other…
  • A stuck windows button could explain this inconsistent experience. The buttons function but unexplicitly change their behavior. Most of the time it, as unexplictly as the behavior altered, it goes back to normal. As was the case while I waited for a reply to my post. And has been normal since. Is there a way to reproduce…
  • The possibility that the problem is one or more memory leaks was on my mind. This latest version of firefox I have includes a disabled by default on plugins. Which means I have to choose to ok once or on a case by case term for each plugin. If there were a memory leak and I were to close the offending application would the…
