  • KURT53S - I'm not as smart as these helpers, but I'll try a few suggestions. What version of Windows 10 are you running, Home or Pro? Also have you tried holding down the left windows key and press the pause key? This should bring up a screen showing information about your basic system. That should show how much memory you…
  • gordonracing - you do realize that Windows 7 will reach it's end of life January 20, 2020. No more irritating updates, to spend your time waiting to finish... I really liked Windows XP, which is still in use on another PC. Of course I'm old enough I still have a DOS 2.11 diskette. Have you tried playing with Linux? I'm…
  • JohnRoss - I hope you don't mind my two cents worth, but starting with Windows 10 you can't get into the Safe mode by hitting F8, unless you've gone in and manually set that function up again. You might Google for how to start Windows 10 in Safe mode and you should find plenty of instructions getting into Safe Mode. I hope…
  • Turning off Fast-start solved the problem. An opinion... when Windows does their routine updates, does that Fast-start option get reset? I've had another program that recommended turning Fast-start off, and I did it for that program, so I knew where to go to uncheck that box. I was surprised to find the box checked…
  • billsey - I received that active DVI to VGA adapter today, hooked it up and now both monitors are working... So far I'm not having any problems with power supply but will watch it. Thanks for your suggestion about the active adapter and help solving my TC-280 dual monitor problem.
  •  JackE - it looks like that VGA plug connects to the MotherBoard. billsey - I've tried both monitors connected to that PCI board but I can only get the VGA plug to work. My other monitor is plugged into DVI port through a DVI to VGA adapter. The VGA port works but I can't get that DVI port to work. There is a Chance that…
  • Both of my monitors are the old VGA male pin type, so I can't use the HDMI plug. Even with the HDMI to VGA adapter, it didn't work. I even had to purchase a DVI to VGA adapter, and that didn't work. I even tried one VGA plugged into the Motherboard and one VGA plugged into the PCI Express card, no luck. Only one monitor…
  • I first used the built, in Item 2, HDMI port. I did have to use a HDMI to VGA adapter, but couldn't get it to work. I didn't try the HDMI port on the Expansion card, yet.
  • I didn't mean to mislead you. When I tried to pull the jumper off post 1 & 2, those black and white wires just popped off that item (chip?). The wires are not soldered on, they are hard to get snapped back on. Just to get to that Jumper, I guess I hit the wires and they popped off. Anyhow I have removed that settings…
  • I did as suggested but when I was removing the 1-2 jumper to 2-3, a black and a white wire popped off what looks like a chip. The two wires were not soldered, it looked like they just snapped in. I'm having trouble snapping them back in. Can you tell what those wires are for?
  • Thank you for all of that information, JordanB. I am running Windows 10 that was factory installed from Acer. I am in the process of trying to copy files from my dead Dell over to this new Acer. I don't think I should have that legacy problem, unless Acer installed the wrong type of version. I'll have to take the cover…
  • As my final chapter, I was finally able to get in touch with support chat. It seems that this Aspire TC-280 is more of an "E" machine than a regular PC. You can't add another hard drive and much to my dismay, you can't add a Graphics card. Even though it comes with a HDML port and VGA port, I can only get the VGA port to…
  • Well I've not been able to get my graphics card to work. The Community doesn't seem to have an answer either. So tonight I tried using the support chat line. I was number 7 in line and estimate time was about 18 minutes. After about a 15 minute wait and I was down to number 1 in line, a message came up that there was no…
  • From the GeForce 8400 GS Community, I've been told that this video card should work with this ACER PC. A few things I was told to check in the BIOS was: 1. Disable integrated graphics 2. Disable secure boot 3. Enable CSM 4. Set launch video oprom to legacy I've gone into the BIOS and can't find any of these options. Am I…
  • After thinking it over, I took your advice and I just have my old hard drive in an external hard drive enclosure. I have been able to transfer most of my files, and the rest of them I'm still looking for. It is a shame my Office 2007 will not load on this PC. Thank you for your suggestion and advice.
