  • Slamerr's posting brings me back into the forum with my latest "I hate my Acer worse than my mother-in-law" scenario: Because of fiasco with power supply described in previous posts, I have not used my Acer hardly at all in months. It just sits on a shelf; I went back to using my "old" Toshiba running on skungy but now…
  • To update and conclude my own story of misadventure with Acer support, which differs from leighann's only in that it has a happy ending. I finally now have a functional Acer again. To recap: 1. After two months of ownership, the S3 laptop developed a power problem; battery would not recharge and when battery became…
  • Yes, Acer repair center is in fact in Texas, USA. I'd better not say any more about Kootrapali and his mates; it only makes my blood pressure rise.
  • Vrushal, Yes, and as I said in my first posting, it only cost me $6 for $400 insurance coverage. If you want more coverage I think it is only $2 per $100 additional at UPS. FedEx might even be cheaper; UPS store was just closest to me. Also, in another forum thread, someone said they got a free shipping label from Acer…
  • peterduffy, Warranty rules must be different in Scotland. I had to prepay UPS shipping myself as well as shipping insurance. As to Delhi call centre, god bless the Wealthy Oriental Gentlemen !
  • Vrushal, To get free repair under 1 year warranty parts & labor, you must contact Acer by phone or Chat and obtain a repair authorization code and instructions on how & where to ship. If you take it to your school's center, they might do an easy fix (like sell you a new adapter cable) but if they open the box & re-solder a…
  • peterduffy21, I sent my Aspire S3 in (had to pay UPS shipping & insurance cost $26) to the repair facility at Temple Texas, per Acer Support direction. Long story but I got it back in the same unserviceable condition that I sent it in although they claimed to have changed power cord, which they did not. Customer service on…
  • Just FYI there is online an Acer Store (you need to click around this neighborhood) where you can find the adapter that you need for your particular unit. Unfortunately, they are cataloged by wattage, so you will have to do a simple math calculation to figure out what wattage adapter you need. My Aspire S3 shows 19v and…
  • When you say "chargeing port is loosely connected to the power cord", do you mean that when you plug the cable into the computer jack it is kind of jiggly loose after insertion? If so, my Aspire S3 does the same; I dont know if it is meaningful or not but after 2 months the cable no longer seems to be providing power to…
  • You go man ! Bite that leg and dont let go until they give you back your toy! I also am experiencing some nerve-racking interactions with the repair shop and customer service regarding what should be a simple power issue with my two-month old Aspire S3.
  • When I first bought my Aspire S3 (which is currently dead as a doorknob), the battery seemed to last all day, even beyond Acer's claim of 5.5 hrs. But I did notice that on recharging it would go up to 98 or 99 percent real quick then take forever to get that extra little bit done to 100 perc. I figured that might just be…
  • Addendum to my own posting. Just discovered from reading posts in other forums that the batteries in Aspire S3 models are "fixed" and not removable without warranty-defying extensive dismantling. Guess we're supposed to just throw the computer away when the battery dies after 1 year warranty as cost of shop repair to…
  • Leaving your S3 plugged in after the battery has fully recharged is probably not "harmful to the battery." But it may be harmful to the adapter...in fact, I am wondering if that was not the catalyst for the problem I am currently enduring with my own S3. I only bought it a few months ago & as I did with previous laptops I…
  • Did you download IE 10 yourself or was it pre-loaded? My Aspire S3 is a 64bit system & I suspect they all are. If you downloaded IE 10 for 32 bit by mistake (or mislabeled at the download site) you would get the error pages you report. I know because I did it...woops! on a different computer.
  • I bought my Aspire S3 in June 2013 and it took about a month of erratic activity such as you describe, including "freezing", before it settled down. I started watching closely when things happened and came to the conclusion that it had to update Windows 8 practically from scratch. The list of windows updates in the updates…
  • Vince53, Thanks for trying but there is no latch whatsoever to "unsnap" the battery on any part of my notebook. Maybe because it is not a laptop, it is a notebook? Nothing that looks like the photos in that link you provided; just a silver plate about the size of a cigarette package (wash my mouth) underneath. It has…
  • Vince53, How does one "remove the battery"? I have an Aspire S3 notebook on which I would like to try what you (and many others) say, the 30 second button hold down test, but I dont see how the battery can be removed without opening up the entire unit, which is of course a warranty-voiding taboo...
  • Dear Very Upset, I really hope you will post the solution to your power problem in the forum if you ever find one because I am having the exact same problem with my new Aspire S3. I suspect it is all to do with faulty adapter/power cables, but we'll see. It won't be the first time that a computer manufacturer got hit with…
  • What in the universe is "blacklite leak" ?.. Sounds dangerous to humanity. I have an Acer Aspire S3 with the very same issues described by "Very Upset", which is why my login is "Igetfedup"...After less than two months the unit quit working off the cable and went dark when battery depleted & could no longer be recharged.…
  • I also have an Acer Aspire that will not charge; it is model S3 notebook. However, I did not lose the adapter nor have I tried to use any other adapter. The unit stopped working off the power plug and when the battery depleted everything just went dark. An Acer online advisor told me to ship the whole unit in. I just got…
