By default, Windows updates are automatically scheduled to install every month. Although updates are tested and verified to work with compatible devices, some applications may not react as well to unexpected updates. In order to prevent application troubles, you may prefer to temporarily pause windows updates and manually update when you are able to confirm that an application will respond appropriately to the update.
To Pause Windows Updates in Windows 11:
- Click on the Start ⊞ button
- Search and open the Settings ⚙️ application
- In the left column of the Settings window, click Windows Update
- To the right, locate Pause updates
- Select the dropdown that says Pause for 1 week
- You can choose to pause updates for up to five weeks
- When you select a length of time, Windows will process the pause and let you know the date that updates are expected to resume
- If you paused for less that five weeks, you'll have the option to extend the pause
- To resume updates early, select Resume updates at the top of the screen
