Hello,
I have an Acer Aspire A715-74g-77fu and for about a week its been having some issues. When it is off and i try to turn it on, the power button doesn't react for a few minutes, but then at some point when i keep pressing it it decides to just turn on like nothing happened. When I open a keyboard tester it reacts to the power button flawlessly. I have also tried resetting BIOS to default settings.

Any ideas if this is a hardware or a software issue or whether I can do something about it besides sending it for repair

    Hi,
Go to Device Manager, expand Keyboards, right click Standard PS/2 Keyboard and uninstall the driver, reboot and let Windows install the driver.

Okay, I did that but ill have to wait a few days to see if it fixed the problem. In the meantime can you give me a basic explanation how would that fix the issue since as far as I know before the OS boots up the BIOS is taking care of devices connected to the motherboard and such.
    Thanks in advance

If the issue is due to corrupted driver, reinstalling the driver might rectify the problem.

To be honest it doesn't feel like a driver issue, because when the laptop is off no drivers are loaded and the BIOS is responsible for reacting to power on and such calls.
If you have any other suggestions they would also be welcome

    Hi Kleemo,

Press and hold battery reset button(small tiny pin hole with battery symbol) at bottom of the laptop for 30-40 sec.

    Plz post the result.

Okay so, it didn't help. I thought about reflashing the bios but I dont know how to do that. I downloaded the update file from the support page but it says latest firmware installed.

Is there a way to make it flash the same firmware?

I wouldn't advice to flash the same firmware, you could try battery reset, if that doesn't help it could be a hardware issue and may have to send it for a service repair.
Switch off the laptop, disconnect from mains and follow the instructions in the video, 3 in my snip is the reset pinhole at the base cover.

    Hello.
I'm currently in the same situation as you. The only thing is I'm no longer relying on the power button to turn the laptop on. Instead, nowadays I'm using a  setting in the BIOS to allow it to wake up the computer with a USB device from the S4 state (Hibernation). In other words, I'm using a USB input device (a wired mouse in this case) to turn it on. I have to make sure to keep it plugged to my computer when I put it in hibernation so when I click a button on my mouse, it turns on. After it's on I can remove it and use the laptop normally, but as soon as I want to put it in hibernation, I have to plug the wired mouse, or USB keyboard, in and put the computer in hibernation so it pays attention to input from it so it can turn on.
That's my laptops handicap for now.  :#
