Goodmorning,
I have an old Acer travelmate 5720g with
Windows Vista (home premium); I wish to "reinstall to factory settings" windows vista; do I need the recovery disk? I don't have;
I have a pen-drive with Windows Vista, if I format the hard disk and then I insert the pen-drive, can I success to reinstall the operating system (even if I don't have the factory recovery disk)?

I'm waiting for your reply,
many thanks

    To get back to the original factory setup you need the recovery disks. If you have a Vista Home Premium install disk you can reinstall from scratch, making sure you have the drivers from Acer's support site ready in case the network doesn't come up and using the CD key that's on the laptop.

    If you have a pen drive with the bootable “Visa Installation” software then look inside your BIOS FIRST go to the “Boot” section and chose as your first boot order the USB-HDD at No1 as that will boot your pen drive. The format process is part of the installation process so don’t preformat the HDD do it during the installation.

    Btw, you can install Win-10 on your TravelMate 5720G, yes it’s got low specs like 2GB RAM a spinner HDD and an Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 and the ATI Mobility Radeon X2500 which is acceptable and adequate but, you can upgraded the CPU to a Core 2 Extreme X7900, that will give you 25% more relative performance and then increase and upgraded to 4GB DDR2 RAM and add a cheap SSD that will increase the performance of your TravelMate 5720G considerably and you can run Win-10 quite comfortably, just a thought of what you can additionally do to your TravelMate 5720G, cheers and good luck.

    You could do the following to restore to factory settings according to the link: https://community.acer.com/en/kb/articles/64-how-to-restore-windows-on-my-acer-computer-using-alt-f10-on-startup
    If it's not working, please make sure you have the recovery disk, or factory backup image (you can get it here: https://store.acer.com/en-us/extended/recovery/), and then use Acer eRecovery Management to perform Acer factory reset, just refer to the instructions.

    Acer no longer provides the factory images for Vista based systems.
