I have tested this with several laptops for information on my problem. It appears that for every laptop, when you plug in a headset in the audio jack, it is not acknowledged as being used anywhere- not in control panel > sounds, not anywhere. However, the headset works. The sound comes through. Furthermore, it seems that on other laptops than my own, the microphone works as well.

Anyway, here's the gist of the story so you get an idea. I just got a Philips SHP9500 headset along with the vmoda boom pro mic. This mic connects to the headset via 3.5mm jack, and then it has another 3.5mm 4pin jack on the other side. When I plug in the combo to my laptop, the sound goes into the headset, but the computer does not use the microphone. It seems to work on other laptops. Furthermore, I had a headset with a built in microphone, which also never worked with my computer. I don't understand why, but it seems that the laptop can't accept a microphone and headset at the same time, even though there is only one "headset" or presumably 4 pin connector (for both audio and microphone).

I'm not sure if it is related to audio drivers. Perhaps the motherboard (currently my laptop does not charge at all despite sending in for repair twice, may be a problem with the motherboard). Either way, I keep finding ways in which acer royally screwed me over. First the battery not charging, now a mic not working. Thanks for my fully functioning product.

Sorry if this might be an obvious thing to say, but did you check playback devices tab and opt to see hidden devices?

As I said, it’s not in control panel anywhere.

after spending hours with Microsoft Support, Quick Assist, uninstalling and reinstalling audio drivers, testing my NEW headset after thinking it was my old headset with a faulty mic on different devices, we all learned and i must say Microsoft just as upset as me, that it is an Acer fault!!! god im soo angry beyond belief! please give me a patch or download to fix this! the laptop mic works fine! its just the laptop that wont detect either headset! nothing in sound setting, device manager, playback, recording, nothing! but heres a thing, you goto voice recorder, it says you need to set up a mic, if i goto Discord hey presto, the laptop in built mic works fine! i actually went and brought a new headset over this!

Try tapping the headset mic, you should see the signal meter jump as Acer decided to bundle the headset mic with the laptop's mic.

My son has a Triton 300, same problem with mic not working only headphones.  Both work as expected with his xBox.  I think it is most probably a Windows 10 problem as I see the same problem with different makes of computers posted on the internet.  The headset just does not appear in the Windows control panels  Please someone give us a fix!

Set your realtek configuration as headset and lightly tap your headset mic, the signal meter should jump.

I found a solution. The audio jack can be interesting. It doesn't actually show anything plugged into the audio jack in the control panel > sounds. I got a little usb/5mm adapter. The USB connection works well, is more stable I suppose, and allows the headset and mic to be acknowledged as "usb audio device."
