Swift 5 laptop not showing headphones in Sound Setting

Hi, I purchased a Swift 5 15.6" laptop recently with windows 10 pre-installed.

When I connect the Boss QC15 headphone to the audio jack, a pop up message appears at the bottom right corner asking "Which device did you plug in?", with "Headphone" highlighted. Is there a way to make this the default so I do not have to click "Ok" to acknowledge this every time I connect the headphone to the laptop?

Also, with the Boss QC headphone connected to the audio jack, I can not see the headphone in the Sound Settings. The output only shows "Speakers (Realtek (R) Audio)". The headphone is actually working, but there's no option to switch to the laptop speakers. I would like to have the option to choose headphone or laptop speakers when the Boss headphone is connected.

Thanks!

Headphones don't have enough smarts to tell the system what they actually are. As far as the system is concerned they might be speakers, headphones or a headset. That's why the popup shows up. Once you have chosen what type of device they are you should have options to use them for output or use the builtin speakers in the sound settings.

Hi, after connecting the headphones to the audio jack, should I be able to see both the Realtek speakers and headphones in "Sound Settings"? I can only see "Speakers (Realtek Audio)", not headphones. There's no other option in the drop down menu. Thanks.

I should add that on my old Lenovo laptop running Windows 10 too, when I connected the same Bose Headphones to the Audio Jack, it would automatically switch to headphone mode.

And in "Sound Settings", I could select either "Speakers" or "Headphones" with the headphones connected.

How do I make the Acer Swift 5 do the same? Thanks.

If there is any configuration setting, then you should go to Realtek Audio Console to look for them.

Hi, Thanks for helping out. I did install Realtek Audio Console but when I ran it, I got the error message "Realtek Audio Console doesn't support for this machine".

I have an Acer Swift 5 15.6in laptop, purchased recently. I have checked that the audio driver is latest (have also deleted and re-installed it).

Re-install your driver --- using the installer exe.

Hi, where can I download "installer.exe"? I couldn't find this in the Acer Support site.

I had previously re-installed the Audio driver from "Device Manager", using the "search automatically for updated driver software" option (also included search for updated drivers in windows update"). It said I already have the latest driver, being Ver 10.0.18362.1 (see attached).

From "device manager", I had also clicked the "Uninstall device", and rebooted the laptop to allow it to auto-install the device. The problem remains.

    Thanks.

Go to Acer's website, download the realtek audio driver and realtek audio console package. Inside the zip file, it contains an installer --- it is usually called setup.exe (or some other similar name).

Right now, you don't have realtek's driver installed, 10.0.18362.1 means you have Microsoft's generic driver.

I did install the Acer Audio driver, and just realized that it seems the install did not work, and the laptop continued to run the Microsoft Audio driver (Ver 10.0.18362.1, 3/18/2019).

I see two files in the Acer download: install.cmd and installpackage.bat.

I ran the command one at a time, in CMD (run as administrator), and rebooted the laptop. The audio driver under Device Manager did not change - still showing Microsoft Ver 10.0.18362.1.

What is the proper way of installing the Acer driver?

    Thanks.

I just noticed that under "Device Manager", there is
    - Audio
    - Sound, Video and game controllers

Under "Sound, Video and game controllers", I see
    - Intel Display Audio
    - Intel Smart Sound Technology
    - Realtek Audio

Under Realtek Audio, the driver is shown as the driver downloaded from Acer, Ver 6.0.1.8581 dated 11/27/2018.

I installed the downloaded Acer Audio driver Ver 6.0.1.8544 dated 2018/11/28, and rebooted laptop. I see this version in Device Mgr, Sound now. But, the issue still remains, in that under Sound Settings, I only see "Speakers Realtek" when headphone is connected.

    Thanks.

The configuration tool is the Realtek audio console. If there is no such setting within the app that will do the job you want, then there is nothing you can do. It works as intended by Acer.

Does anyone know if Realtek Audio Console apps work on the Acer Swift 5 (SF515-51T-73TY)? When I try to run it, I got the message "Realtek Audio Console does not support for this  machine".

If you have installed the driver correctly, you should see the following items in the device manager (not including your laptop's dolby stuff not in my example).

Update: I had a replacement Acer Swift 5 laptop with a working Audio Console, and was able to use it to fix the audio issue where it will no longer prompt when headphone is inserted.

Update: I have since returned the Acer Swift 5 laptop due to ongoing WIFI dropout issue and bought a Lenovo Slim 7 laptop.

The sound setting for this laptop works properly in that when the headphone is inserted, I can see both external speakers and Headphone in Sound Setting and choose either one.

Here's the Sound Setting in Lenovo Slim 7:
