Is the Predator CG7 8 bit or 8 bit + FRC?

I recently ordered a Predator CG7 because I was under the impression that DisplayHDR 1000 monitors are guaranteed to offer 10 bit color, whether it be with 8 bit + FRC or 10 bits. Can someone verify
if this monitor offers either? The tech specs say it is an 8 bit panel, so I am a bit confused.

I got the monitor in the mail. It seems like it might be an 8 bit + FRC panel. At least that's what windows 10 says, and it sort of makes sense for the price. Their specs are just not detailed enough for the product. It gives a simple "8 bit."

Whats your setup? GPU and monitor settings? Are you getting Gsync mode enabled?

Eh, I have a GTX 1060, i5 8600k, HDR settings with Gsync enabled. Using HDR colorspace. So far I am loving it. The only problem I have with it is the fact that is has 14 or 16 edge lit dimming zones, so it can be quite noticeable. Not a big deal though, as getting a monitor with a full array would have been prohibitively expensive.

Is it HDR in the advanced settings?

    Yes.

Any chance you can show me? I cannot figure out why the monitor isnt showing up with GSync, when 2 cables are connected to it..
    Any Ideas?

From what I've read, the monitor does not support GSync when two cables are connected to it. This means that to use GSync at 4K with 10 bit HDR, you will need to use a single display port, as the HDMI cable does not have the bandwidth for it.

In my opinion, it's worth it to run the monitor at 120Hz 4k HDR with a single display port. Try it out, as 120Hz with GSync is far better than 144Hz without. Well, to me it is.

EDIT: I would like to add that I don't come anywhere near close to even 40 fps with my GTX 1060. Waiting on the next generation to maybe dip my toes into 4k high fps gaming.

Okay, thats great, I plugged in the 1 cable and youre right, upto 120hz gsync with one cable, and HDR. Although it wasnt no where near as bright as it was with 2 cables.

I gave it a go with the 120hz, and i just cant live with it.
Its a much better 'vibe' when i switch it to 144hz. It just feels more 'plush'.
Im on a Hybrid EVGA 2080ti, i get near 101-105 FPS at 4k on Apex.

How are you sticking the LED strips on behind the monitor?
I bought some magnetic sticky strips, but the weight of the cable always ends up pulling them off, so ive had to sticky tape the wrapped up cable to the back of the monitor, which was something i wanted to avoid.

When using one cable, make sure to go into the settings menu and make sure everything is set up correctly. When I barely received the monitor it looked extremely dim and washed out. Soon as I set it to HDR with HDR color space, it looked way different.

For example, there were two 4k HDR videos that I watched on youtube yesterday. I was literally blinded because of how bright it gets. I had to either squint my eyes or look away from the screen. So the brightness is still there over one cable so long as you make sure the settings are right in the settings menu.

As for the LED strips, I haven't really bothered to put them on there. But I definitely need to though, as having a baseline level of light in my dark room would help make the blacks look darker while reducing eye strain.

But yeah, I highly recommend that you play with the settings because GSYNC+120Hz+4k+HDR looks amazing.

Well i tried it again, and while the settings youve pointed out are good, i did the same think with 4k 144HZ and ill argue that- my settings are better.. :p
If im playing Apex and alt tab, the brightness just bounces from the screen. I almost need sunglasses. I can set the HRD in the menu to HDR1000 and 4K HDR just glimmers..

It doesnt matter if you like your settings or i like mine, it matters that were both enjoying this lovely monitor, thanks for your input.

Well, yeah. I was just saying it was worth a try to see if the single cable with gsync was better than 144hz without it.
