You should check it anyway. Open ControlPanel. Search 'restore point'. Click 'create a restore point'. If the box that pops up shows SystemProtection is turned on, then click 'system restore' button. If you refresh or reset the system for this annoying behavior, make sure system protection is turned on immediately afterward. Or an errant update might try to sneak in there again, and you be back to where you started. If it was mine, I'd probably live with the annoyance and hope some future update fixes the issue rather than chance having to set my system up the way I like it again which is more important to me than KB backlight weirdness. And yes i hope some BIOS update will fix this issue. however acer is pretty slow in releasing updates for devices more than 1-2 years of launch..

Maybe it is a kernel issue.
I ran some Linux distro (Kali & MINT) through external devices, it ran on MINT for about 8-9 days continuously and there the keyboard light was running just fine. After that booted back to internal SSD (windows 10 2004) and found everything was okay lights are running fine I had some issues with F12 key it was also fixed.
Maybe its BIOS to windows kernel or bios to grub to Linux kernel something happened out of my explanation bt it is working which matters.
If you can, take a pendrive which have Linux installed and boot live into it use it for some time and boot back to windows.. it won't harm your laptop and there are tons of guide to do this ( Google : Linux live boot ). if you are making a bootable drive use Ubuntu or Linux mint cause they will boot right up.
